I. Classroom Policies

A. Note from Ms. Wood

I will lead a respectful and disciplined classroom. To achieve this, I have established a few simple polices.
As a student, it is your responsibility to comply with these policies. If you decide not to comply, there will
be logical consequences. By enforcing these policies, I promise to you fairness and order in our classroom.

B. Class Rules

Watch Your Language- Students will exhibit courtesy and respect toward all other students at all times.
Hateful comments concerning race, gender, sexuality, political views, appearance, or of any other type will not
be tolerated; this applies to serious as well as joking comments.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself- Physical contact of any kind is not permitted. Violation of this simple rule means
that the individual(s) will be punished appropriately.

Stay in Your Seat- Do not walk around during class unless directed to do so. You will have everything you need
ready before class begins. This includes a pencil, pen, binder, folder, and a textbook (when needed).

Leave the Food at Home- Students may not eat or drink in the classroom. This includes gum, candy, chips,
soda, juice, etc.

I Need to See Your Eyes- Students may not sleep in class. To prevent this, students eyes must be open and
visible to the instructor at all times.

Nothing Goes Airborne- Nothing will go airborne in class at any time. This includes pens, paper, and other
students.

No Electronics- Electronics should not be SEEN or HEARD upon arrival to class. They should be away in your
backpack on vibrate or silent. This includes cell phones, tablets, mp3 players, iPods, and any other devices that
can be categorized as an electronic. Failure to comply will result in electronic device taken away immediately
on 1st attempt.

C. If YOU CHOOSE to Break a Rule

Punishments will always fit the crime. Of course, there are behaviors that will warrant a Deans Referral
immediately. Examples of this include insubordination or violent behavior. Behavior that are less severe,
but in violation of the basic rules of the class will be dealt with in the manner described below. This format
is no way all-inclusive and is subject to change.

1st Incident- Warning

2nd Incident- Bull Break
3rd Incident- Phone call home
4th Incident- Deans referral

D. Tardiness and Late Arrivals
A student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings, is considered either late or tardy. A student is
tardy if he or she is present without a pass after the bell. A student is late if he arrives with a pass after
the bell. Tardy and late students are to come into the classroom and will not disrupt the class. Late
students need to place their pass on my desk. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass.

The tardy penalty is explained below:

Definition: A student is tardy if he or she is not inside the classroom when the bell stops ringing and does
not have a pass.
First Tardy--- Student receives a warning. *All tardies will be recorded after first warning.*
Fourth Tardy--- Student receives a referral

Further tardiness will be handled by the administration.

E. Attendance
If a student is absent from class, he or she is responsible for the assignments/homework that were missed.
The student has as many days as he or she was absent to make up the assignments. It is up to the student
to inquire about missed work and tests. Zeros will be given if a student fails to make up work within an
acceptable period.

F. Late Work
Assignments may not be turned in late. Papers (labs) and projects may be turned in late with a penalty of
one letter grade for each day late.

G. Make-Up Tests/ Quizzes

If a student is absent for a test/quiz day, he or she may make-up the test/quiz in the morning or
afternoon during the week by appointment.

H. Grading Weights

Tests/Projects/ Presentations 40% 90 - 100 = A

Class Work 25% 80 - 89 = B
Quizzes/FCAs (Assessments) 25% 70 - 79 = C
Homework 10% 60 - 69 = D
0 - 59 = F

I. Academic Honesty
It is expected that students will use genuine, sincere, and fair means for the accomplishment of the tests,
tasks, or projects from which evaluations of progress shall be determined. Students found plagiarizing,
copying, or cheating in any way will receive automatic zeros. In addition, the student will receive a
referral. Repeated offenses will be dealt with separately with administration.

I. Classroom Procedures

A. Note from Ms. Wood

As a teacher, I pride myself on an efficient and smooth running classroom. To achieve this, I have
established a few simple procedures. As a student, it is your responsibility to learn and perform these
procedures. Through these procedures, I promise to you a more organized and effective learning
experience.

B. Entering the Classroom

You are to enter the classroom without screaming, running, or otherwise causing a ruckus. Also, you are to
come through the front door, not the back entry way from Mr. Hamricks class. Students who do not do
this will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected. It is expected that as soon as you enter you
first go to the take table and pick up any handouts or hand in any assignments in the turn-in bin. Once
seated, check the front board for the days bell ringer. Also, take time to look at the agenda and see what
activities are planned for the period. You can also use this time to briefly speak with me, make an
appointment to make-up a test, or get extra help.

C. Waiting for Ms. Wood

If Ms. Wood is not waiting for you at the door right away, please line up on the wall outside the door
quietly.

D. Bell Ringer
Everyday will begin with a bell ringer. You will find the bell ringer on the front board. Bell ringers should be
started before the bell rings. Most bell ringers will involve you to answer questions about the topic we are
learning or to fill out a form. Bell ringers will be filled out on a bell ringer sheet provided and collected once
a week for a grade. You will only receive one bell ringer sheet. If you lose it, you are required to copy bell
ringers on a separate sheet of notebook paper.

E. Picking up Materials for the Day

Any handouts you will need on a given day will be found in the Take Bin near the door. If the bin or sign is
not there, you dont need to pick up anything, just begin the days bell ringer. If you arrive late and picking
up the handouts will be a distraction, go to your seat and raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so.

F. Supplies
Supplies may be left on the desk for you. Please do not touch them unless given instruction. They are for
your benefit and are not to be destroyed. Please place them back in the crate once you are done using.

G. Group Work
My class is based on working together as a team, and it will require working within assigned groups (by
me). Each member of the group will have a designated job. The rules to effectively working in a group are
as follows: 1) be prepared with the necessary tools and resources to be successful 2) collaboration is key to
being a successful learning club 3) all members participate, share, learn from, and help one another 4) no
one group member is to do all the work 5) do your personal best .

H. Moving About in the Classroom
There should not be a reason for you to be out of your seat DURING class unless you used a hand signal to
get a tissue, use the bathroom, or sharpen your pencil. The area near the door should ALWAYS be cleared.
Students should not crowd near the door since this is a location containing the fire extinguisher,
emergency power shut off, and fire alarm.

I. Garbage
Garbage should be thrown away at the end of the class period. If you have paper that needs to be thrown
away, place it at the end of your table. A classmate or I will collect it at the end of the class period. Your
desk area is to remain clean. Playing paper basketball is UNACCEPTABLE. If a student is caught playing,
consequences will be served.

J. Sharpening Pencils
If you have to sharpen your pencil during class, please ask at an appropriate time (not while Ms. Wood is
talking or giving important instructions).

K. Handing in Assignments
If there is an assignment that you need to hand in, place it in the Turn-In-Bin in the appropriate class
period with your name, date, period and assigned number at the top of your paper. If you hand in any
assignment without proper heading, you will receive a zero. If you arrive late and handing the assignment
will be a distraction, come in the classroom, go to your seat, and raise your hand when it is appropriate to
do so.

L. Graded Assignment Sheet

You each will be given a graded assignment sheet. From here, you are responsible for writing down and
inserting all returned graded assignments. (This is for student use only, as the teacher keeps all scores in a
grade book.) The grade sheet is a chart, which you will record the type of assignment, total points actually
earned on the assignment, and grade given according to points earned. I will show you how use points
earned and possible points to average your grade. This way, you can do a quick average own your own
time to time during your nine-week period. Remember assignments will be placed in different categories
with different weights, which can affect your grade.

M. Jobs
Classroom jobs are an important component of creating a welcoming and productive environment. Below
is a list of jobs with their descriptions. Next to the job is a number, which identifies how many students are
assigned. The jobs will rotate every 2 weeks and selected randomly by student number.

Attendance Managers (2) - Takes classroom attendance.

Absent Managers (2) - Will fill out Make-Up Work sheet for students who are absent.
Messengers (2): Assists Ms. Wood in random duties outside classroom.
Timers (2): Starts/stops timer for assignments given a time limit.
Paper Managers (2) - Passes out and collects papers.
Pencil Managers (2) - Signs out/in pencils to students. Also, sharpens pencils and replaces broken ones as
needed.

N. Coming to Attention
When I need to quiet the class, I will raise my hand and say 1, 2, 3 eyes on me. You will follow by raising
your hand and saying, 1, 2 eyes on you. This is only complete when all hands are up and the class is quiet.

O. Getting Ms. Woods Attention

To avoid classroom interruptions, hand signals will be used to get teachers attention. Students will raise
their hands with 1 finger to sharpen pencil, 2 to get a tissue, 3 to go to bathroom/drink, 5 for questions. I
will acknowledge your request with a thumb up or down.

P. Arriving Late
When you enter the room late (with or without a pass) you do not need to disturb the class. If you have a
pass, please place it on my desk. If you must speak with me, come into the classroom, go to your seat, and
raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so.

Q. Leaving the Classroom

The bell does not dismiss the class, I do. Do not pack up until I dismiss the class. People who pack up fast
shall leave last.

R. Bathroom
The bathroom may only be used in emergencies. You will sign-out at the rest-room sheet, with your name,
date, time-out, and time-in. One student may go at a time with a 4-minute limit. At the beginning of each
quarter, you will receive 8 bathroom passes. These are to be used at your discretion. It is your
responsibility to make sure that they do not get lost. If you lose the bathroom passes, they are not
replaceable. In addition, you cannot take any from your classmates. At the end of the quarter if you have
left over passes, they can be handed in for extra-credit (1 point each pass) on an assignment.

S. Absences
On the day you return from an absence, you should arrive early to class. The first thing to do is to check the
absent file for the appropriate class period in the green crate in the front of the classroom near the
window. In it will be a Make-up Assignment sheet that will give you information on work that you
missed. If there are any questions about any assignments on the sheet, speak with me before or after class.

T. Extra Handouts
If you need a handout, please ask. I may or may not have extras. It is important not to lose anything I give
you!

U. Make-Up Tests/ Quizzes

If you absent for a test day/quiz day (not the day before a test/quiz), you will have to arrange for a make-
up test/quiz. Make-up tests/quizzes are done during the week in the morning or after school. Please pre-
arrange just in case I have a meeting or a parent conference.

V. Substitute/Visitors
If there is a substitute or visitor, classroom policies and procedures are still followed. When there is a
substitute, they will follow lesson plans found on my desk in a folder titled substitute. I will ask them to
leave a note on behavior; any negative behavior will be handled upon my return.
