School Campus Carry Laws: Annotated Bibliography

Birnbaum, Robert. Ready, Fire, Aim: The College Camous Gun Fight. Change, vol. 45, no. 5,

Sep/Oct 2013, pp. 6-14, EBSCOhost, doi:10.1080/00091383.2013.812462.

Birnbaum wrote upon the legalization of gun carry on college campuses, with regard to

the environment it would provide. Amplifying that if students and faculty members were

to be allowed carry, it would allow a safer campus limiting the amount of violence the

campus would continue to have. With knowledgeable facts on gun carry laws in the

United States, the information was reliable in the perspective of allotting a total ban of

weapons on campuses will reduce campus wide violence.

Containing information upon the previous years shooting surround Sandy Hook, Author

Raasch Chuck expands on how the NRA is going to make meaningful contributions to

ensure the actions never take place again. Also, how the shooting provoked action from

the Michigan governor, Rick Snyder, to veto a bill that would have allowed guns to be

handled while in schools. This article will provide evidence of why schools need to take

more safety precautions when it comes to allowing guns and weapons on campuses.

Tyler Kingkade wrote upon the issues college leaders have opposing the carry of guns on

campuses. Showing a different perspective, it allows my proposal to show a different

view of the situation, being that the staff and campus officials need ways of protection in

certain shooting situations. The article provides statistics that when guns are present, a

risk in the number of homicides increases. However, in many locations across the nation

there is a stalled presence in the evaluation of allotting a final answer.

In Lees article, she exploits not only the negatives, but also the positives of having gun

control on any college campus. This is a useful source because the information and

interviews conducted provide an inside prospective on why college students should and

should not be allowed to carry guns on campus. Addressing the safety side, it shows safer

when students did not carry the guns, but Lee controls the argument by allowing all views

of why and how guns are allowed.

Information brought upon by a series of interviews the question of whether schools

should allow the carry of guns or not. The information found from these interviews will

provide evidence into my proposal of why guns should not be allowed on campuses for

the safety of not only younger children but even the grown more knowledgeable college

students at public and or private universities. The article shows the difference between

why and why not schools should allow officials to openly carry the weapons on

campuses.

Focusing on the gun laws, campus officials speak upon the wake of recent events with

shooting surrounding college campuses. With the information in this article, I will be able

too use the examples of the Kansas legislation and Arkansas bill to provide further

support upon why schools should ban the carry of such harmful instruments knowing the

concealed carry laws. The article provides information on how states are continuing the

fight to construe the idea of open carry on schools and universities nationwide.
