Reflection Essay
The assignment I am most proud of throughout my four years of high school at Great Oak
is an analysis essay from my Junior year on the poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood. The
assignment was to discuss how the author uses poetic devices to convey the meaning of her
poem. I am most proud of this assignment because I believe it to be one of my most successful
and well developed essay throughout my four years at Great Oak. I believe this essay to be
successful because I elaborately analyzed the poem and the devices used to portray Atwoods
meaning of her poem by not only listing but also addressing the effects of the devices in the
poem as a whole in rich, complex detail. I wrote the essay in well-developed, organized, and
insightful manner which portrayed my clear understanding of the poem in an effective and
sophisticated essay.
Over the last four years, looking back at my essays and assignments from English and
looking at transcripts I have greatly improved my techniques in English. I have learned to expand
on my vocabulary as I have learned new diction over the years. I have also improved the flow of

connect my claims and reasons to major section of the text. I can also improve on better
analyzing and evaluating an authors argument or meaning of a text to better improve my skills
as a writer.
My four years of high school at Great Oak has greatly prepared my for my next step into
college through its courses and classes especially through English. The classes I have taken for
English over the years has taught me not only how to become a better writer but also how to use
that in other part of my work and life. My expanded vocabulary and use of diction, as well as
other skills earned, helps me to better portray my ideas into my writing as well into other
