Petition for Use of Paper Ballots in GA06 Runoff Election

(You need not be a GA06 voter to sign below. Names of GA06 voters will be prioritized.)
This petition is addressed to Georgia Secretary of State Kemp and the
Election Directors of Cobb, DeKalb, and Fulton Counties

PETITION

Dear Secretary Kemp and Directors Barron, Daniels, and Eveler:

We the undersigned respectfully request that each of you exercise your powers under
the provisions of Georgia law ( 21-2-281) to authorize the use of paper ballots in the
polling places for the Congressional District 6 runoff election on June 20, 2017.

Paper ballots are permitted in Georgia when the use of the voting equipment is
impractical. The long history of problems with Georgias unverifiable and vulnerable
voting system justifies the determination that paper ballots are required.

The nations election environment is increasingly at risk for cyber-security attacks.

Georgia has experienced recent unresolved security and election processing issues.
Georgias electronic voting system has long been known to be vulnerable to malicious
intrusion and lacking a verifiable audit trail.

Serious concerns have been raised about Georgias voting system by computer
scientists in their letter to Secretary Kemp, and we urge that you follow their
recommendation to employ paper ballots. Continuing the use of the current Georgia
system is impractical, unwise and causes a loss of voter confidence. We desire paper
ballots that can be audited and recounted if necessary, with full public oversight. None
of the much-needed transparency is available with the outdated electronic and
paperless system, leaving voters and campaigns to merely trust that electronic errors
and malfeasance have not occurred.

We believe that voting by paper ballot is simple and requires minimal voter education.
Also, because the paper ballots will have only the single runoff contest, they can be
easily hand counted in the polling places. Paper ballots can also be counted by the
optical scan machines used for absentee ballots.

We respectfully request that you act immediately to employ the use of paper ballots in
the Georgia Congressional District 6 election.
