Extra thick diaper saves the day

Jocelyn Broth, March 29, 2017

COLLEGE PARK, Md. It may be difficult to anticipate a diaper saving the life of an
infant, but this recently became a reality in Maryland.

Two armed robbers broke into a home in the Riverview section of College Park shortly
before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Grace Ford, her younger sister and an infant were in the
home at the time.

The robbers demanded money and jewelry from Ford and her sister, collecting valuables
and cash worth about $5,000.

When Fords dog started barking, one of the suspects fired three shots in its direction, all
of which missed. The infant began to cry, and Ford picked her up.

Though Ford discovered no wounds, she found a bullet lodged in the babys diaper.

The diapers were extra thick, Ford said. There was about an inch left to the diaper that
it didnt pierce.

Neighbors called the police upon hearing the commotion.

When I heard the shots and the baby, I ran to the window, one neighbor said.

Neighbors told police that the two robbers headed toward the cemetery and sped off in a
car. They were unsure of the color or model.

The suspects are described as Caucasian, between 18 and 20 years old and of medium
height and weight. One wore jogging pants from the University of Florida and a ski
mask. The other also wore a mask along with a white shirt and baseball cap.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
