CONRAD BALL MIDDLE

June 6, 2010

Dear CBMS Parents and Guardians,

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility

to give something back by becoming more”
Anthony Robbins

Three years ago I had the opportunity to come and join the CBMS family as the school leader. I was excited to have the
opportunity to come and share my leadership skills with a school community that was making great strides in student
achievement.

Today I am writing this letter to inform you that I was asked to come to the district office as the Interim Director of
Secondary Education. I received the news with mixed emotions, because of all of the new initiatives we have planned for
next year. In reflecting on this I know and have faith in Mrs. Starr and the strong teacher leaders on our staff who will
continue to work toward our vision. I felt I could not pass up this opportunity to continue to grow as a leader. I will now
be able to work with all of the middle and high schools and take the Thompson District mission, which we have embraced
in our work and guide the work of our entire secondary level.

This coming year, Mr. Scott Elias, coming from Loveland High School, has been appointed to fill my position as Interim
Principal. As an Assistant Principal at Loveland High, Scott has demonstrated exceptional leadership in technology and
working with staff and students. He has the leadership skills to support our initiatives. I will be working closely with
Scott to ensure the implementations of the new schedule and our intervention day.

My “interim position” is only for one year. During this year, I will determine if this was the right move for me or if being
the leader of a building is where my heart is. If I choose to come back to CBMS, then Scott will return to LHS. If I am
selected to fill the role as Director of Secondary Education, the district will move forward with a search for my
replacement.

Once again, this was a very difficult decision for me to make. I have enjoyed my time at CBMS working with the
students, staff and school community. I appreciate and will miss ALL of you. I am looking at this as I get the best of
both worlds. I get to continue to work with the CBMS staff along with all of the middle and high schools to help us all
continue to work to close the achievement gap and increase our students’ achievement. We have a very strong district that
is on a trajectory for success for our students and I am honored to be asked to help move our district forward.

With Regards and Respect,

Sheila
