Our Story

The cooperative is located in the municipality of Quimbaya, in the

Colombian department of Quindo. The regions economy is based
primarily on the production and marketing of coffee, with agro-
tourism coming in close behind; its vast water resources make the land
very fertile and favorable for the production of coffee, the agricultural
activity for which Quindo is best known. Our Products
COOCAFEQ was founded in 2005, when Cooperativa de Caficultores
del Noroccidente del Quindo and Cooperativa Departamental de
Caficultores del Quindo merged following the exodus of many farmers Caf de Mi Pueblo
to the city in search of more lucrative employment. At the time, the
high cost of materials and unstable prices on the international market Aroma: hint of chocolate, peanut butter
meant that coffee production was no longer a profitable business. Taste: sweet, cane sugar with a hint of maple syrup
Aftertaste: clean, with a fruits of the forest preface
As a result of this merger, COOCAFEQ members - most of them
Acidity: medium acidity, citrusy
from coffee farming families - have been able to maintain their coffee
crops and gain access to markets, proving the Associations key role Body: creamy body
in marketing and providing benefits to farmers. The Cooperative Sweetness: sweet, brown sugary, caramelly
currently has a membership base of 1,117.

In 2016, COOCAFEQ created the Department of Specialty Coffees, Caf Barranquero

sending six members into the field to promote the production of high-
quality dry parchment coffee, and to provide the technical assistance
needed to achieve Fairtrade International or FLO certification, which Single-origin coffee, roasted and ground
in turn helped improve members quality of life.

COOCAFEQ is part of Interagency Agreement 078, signed in 2016 and

titled Business Empowerment and Innovation for the Departments
Coffee Growers. The organization fulfills the role in this agreement
of first logistics operator, market regulator, and purchase guarantor;
its Department of Specialty Coffees works to ensure the quality and
differentiation of coffee from the Quindo region.
