What I have Learned

Learning a new language is not an easy thing to do and it depends on the reason of why

you want to learn this language because if you want to learn just for fun it will be much easier for

you to receive the new knowledge more than the one who must learn it in order to live in a new

country or to continue his education in that country. From my experience, I came to United

States in order to complete my university, so it was a pit hard for me to learn a new language and

there are some challenges with native speakers in the university. I dont want to feel that Im

behind them because these isnt my mother language. However, Im taking English 113A in

SCUN that helped me to learn a lot of skills; such as new reading strategies, challenging topics to

write about, and the ability to find sources to support my arguments. Not only that, but also

developing my writing method into hopefully as advanced writer. I honestly learned a lot in this

class especially writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Im so happy that I can see my English

has improved dramatically and grammatically.

There is a significant change between my reading strategies now comparing to what I was

before. I was having some challenges with understanding full sentences because there are many

high vocabulary I couldnt understand it. I worked really hard to learn these high vocabs and I

was trying to use it in my writing, so I can get the right structure of each words every time. For

example, while I was riding the book of Composing Gender the article of Mr. Hubbard, I

couldnt understand in the beginning what (Social Construct) means in that article. After reading

carefully and without translating the word I figure out the meaning. I realize that I could know

any new vocabulary by reading the whole sentence and by guessing the meaning of it and it is

very important to read a lot so I can collect some good vocabs that can be helpful to me in the

future.

It is very helpful to listen to some speeches or some good music to improve your English

thats will make it very easier for me to learn how to say some words with the right

pronunciation. However, listening to my professor helped me a lot in this class to improve my

speaking and my writing skills. For example; when I listen to my professor and she use new

vocabulary and she repeat the same vocab a cable of times it makes it very easier for me to say it

in the right pronunciation after her. Also, I have learned that it is very important to listen to

yourself by reading out loud after you finish writing anything because that will make you use

your mind to fix your grammar or structure mistakes by itself not only that, but also it will

improve you as a writer.

As a non-native speaker, I faced many difficulties when I try to speak full sentences in

English such as sometimes the people cannot know what Im talking about clearly because of my

speech disorder or my weakness grammar. Speech disorder is one of the most common mistake

that I fall into it. Therefore, I tried to speak as much as I could with other native student in this

class in order to improve my speaking skills. Also, I have learned in this class after a couple of

individuals presentations how to be confidence in my presentation by being practicing a lot of

what I want to say before I present. It is very important for me to think in English not in my

mother tang so that will help me a lot to speak fluently and not taking too long to think or

translate of what I want to say especially if I were taking to someone face to face.

I always want to be a better writer, but it so difficult for someone who doesnt read a lot

of books in English, the writing skills is very reliable on how much you read. There are many

good ways to learn how to be a good writer such as taking some English courses, and to do a

plan before you begin writing of what youre going to talk about. Also, there are some common

grammar mistakes that I need to be aware of such as comma places or spilling mistakes.

Sometimes I cannot write a full sentence without spilling errors because in English there are

many silent syllables that you write, but you didnt say it. This confused me a lot, when I asked

the teacher she said even the native speakers could not write some words without spilling errors,

so just practice and you will be okay.

In conclusion, there are so many things that they were very helpful to me in this class and

trolley I can see the difference between now and what I was before its been a significant

improve. This class it was very challengeable because the professor was giving as to many

homework to do it and after a while I realized these homeworks are very helpful and joinable it

makes me practice my English and it also helped me to show me the right directions of the

essays. I will continue what I have started so I will take the class 113B the next semester and I

hope that I can rich what I always dreamed about it as being a good writer. It still there are many

things that I should learn it to reach that the level that I always want to be. I recommended to all

the student that who camas to the United States in order to continue their education to work very

hard on the language and they should be a way and not speaking in their mother tang and they

should try to make good friends so they can help each other to fix their mistakes. It will be a little

bite difficult for them to learn the language, but after a cupule of months they goanna see the

difference.
