EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

In Africa, the common and acceptable line of thought is that, this is a mans world and
women are most of the time relegated to the background. Education for the girl child is seen
as a wasteful investment irrespective of the fact that they may possess better IQ compared to
their male counterparts at times. This and many other challenging but surmountable obstacles
stand in the way of Africas development. A large chunk of ideas that should bring
progressive development in the society is usually ignored at the altar of gender bias.
Men and Women were created to complement each other and shouldnt be seen as
competitors but as partners in development and progress.
Though, some progress has been made in recent times to bridge the once growing gap
between the girl and boy child school enrolment, much still need to be done in the area of
providing equal opportunities to all as the task of nation building cannot be left to a select
few. Positive contributions towards progressive development from all and sundry should not
be taken for granted but be given fair and equal treatment as this is the only guaranty
that everyone is indeed contributing to the development of their communities and the nation
at large. When this is done, the society will be better off.
