Causes and Effects of Having Tattoos and Piercings

Having a tattoo or piercing is always a big decision to make. This, mainly because

when it comes of piercings and tattoos there are some consequences that can be both right or

bad seen by society and can provoke both acceptation or rejection.

For example, concerning tattoos, there is not a certain way to undone what a person has done

on his/her own skin. As a result of this, many people regret and complain at a wrong-done

tattoo that they cannot simply erase. That is why some people get scared when talking about

tattoos and even avoid having them.

On the other hand, many people state that they feel more confident since the day they got

their own tattoo. They also state that it expresses the way they are and, in some cases, the way

they live. Consequently, the self-confidence gained by this act of freedom boosts people

determination to achieve what they seek.

In addition, tattoos are often seem as a brand new fashion; but it depends on the context in

which they are used. That is why in some countries it is still seen as a Taboo, while in some

other countries it is even seen with a powerful spiritual meaning. The context in these cases is

what determines acceptation.

In some other cases, meaning is the concerning part of tattoos and piercings. When some

people are asked about the meaning of their piercings they state that they only got them for

fashion (which is commonly seen as vanity), while people that are asked for the reason why

they got a tattoo usually give a deeper and more meaningful answer. Thus, tattoos are seen

with a more artistic perspective rather than piercings.

As a conclusion to this, I personally consider that having a tattoo or piercing is a decision that

requires self-confidence and a high determination. Also, it demands people to be sure about

what they want because it is something that, in most of the cases, would be part of them for

the rest of their lives.
