Reading Writing

Learning Objectives:
Students will understand Newtons three Laws by reading the Science
textbook and other nonfiction books.
From using their knowledge, students will analyze how Newtons Laws
relate to our daily lives.
Students will demonstrate their understanding of Newtons 3rd law by
constructing a scientific concept of what happens when two objects collide.
Students will collect observations in their Science journals by taking
notes and drawing pictures.
Students will explain their scientific concept by constructing explanations
that can be supported by citing multiple sources as evidence (textbooks and
observations).

Assessment:
In groups, the Students will build and test balloon-powered rocket car
demonstrating Newtons Third Law.
Each student will write a one page paper explaining their scientific
concept by using observations, information they have gathered, and sources to
support their evidence. Explanations must include a visual representation.

Essential Question:
How does Newtons 3rd law apply to our daily lives?
Sub-questions:
In what direction is the air escaping? What direction does the car travel in? What is
the action force? What is the reaction force? Try running your rocket car up an
incline-- What force must it overcome in order to go up? Try modifying your car so that
it can travel uphill.
