Abstract
Background: One of the causes of maternal death is too late to recognize the
danger signs of pregnancy. The government issued a variety of efforts to address
these causes, one of them is holding Maternal and Child Health handbook (MCH
handbook. MCH book is expected to increase the knowledge of pregnant women
about the danger signs of pregnancy.
Aim (s): To know the correlation between the utilization of Maternal and Child
Health handbook (MCH handbook) with the level of knowledge and attitude of
pregnant women about the danger signs in BPM E district Ambarawa from
January to March 2012.
Method: The type of this research was cross sectional analytic design. This study
analyzed the relationship between the utilization of MCH handbook with the level
of knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about the danger signs of
pregnancy. The population in this study were 49 pregnant women. It used total
sampling in sample collection. Data processing were editing, coding, scoring,
entry, cleaning and tabulating. Analysis of the data used Spearmans Rho
corellation test with a value p tabel = 0,5.
Result: From this study could be obtained that was equal to approximately 61,2 %
of pregnant women use MCH handbook. Most of the pregnant women had
enough knowledge (46,9 %). Most of the pregnant women had a positive attitude
agains the danger signs of pregnancy (93,9 %). The correlation test found there
was no significant correlation between utilization of MCH handbook and
knowledge or attitudes of pregnant women (pvalue< ptable).
Conclusion: There was no correlation between the use of MCH handbook with
the level of knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about the danger signs of
pregnancy.
