The Enigmatic Mountains

The blazing sun

Scorches the Earth,

Magnifying the ruddy rocks

That tower above microscopic campsites.

The turbulent wind howls,

Carrying the voices of hikers,

Yet a deafening silence

Eases the contemplative mind.

The abrasive sun fades,

Creating a colorful haze of clouds;

A masterpiece of vibrant reds and pinks

Splatters the southern Texas sky.

The placid night comes,

The sky a deep ocean blue,

Speckled by glistening stars.

This is the Davis Mountains.
