OBJECTIVE

TO ENHANCE THE UNDERSTANDING ON HOW TO INSPECT, CHECK,


AND DISSASEMBLE THE BRAKE ASSEMBLIES BY REFERRING TO THE
PROCEDURES IN THE SERVICE MANUAL AND IPC.

BRAKE ASSEMBLIES
GOODYEAR SINGLE DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLIES NUMBER 9530303 ARE
HYDRAULICLLY OPERATED AND CONTAIN A SELF-ADJUSTING MECHANISM.
THIS SELF-ADJUSTING MECHANISM PROVIDES PROPER BRAKE CLEARENCE
THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF THE BRAKE LINING, INCREASING LINING LIFE
AND INSURING A FREE TUNING WHEEL AT ALL TIMES. INLET PORTS ARE
PROVIDED ON BOTH FORWARD AND AFT SIDE OF THE BRAKES SO THAT
THEY MAY BE INSTALLED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE BRAKE
HOUSING IS MACHINED FROM A MAGNESIUM FORGING.
PROCEDURES

DISSEMBLEY
1. COMPLETELY DEFLATE TIRE AND REMOVE WHEEL.
2. DISCONNECT HYDARULIC LINE AND REMOVE BOLTS FROM TORQUE
FLANGE RELEASING BRAKE.
3. REMOVE BRAKE DISC AND BRAKE LININGS FROM THE HOUSING.
4. REMOVE ADJUSTING NUT.
5. USE CYLINDER HEAD ADAPTOR OR SPANNER WRENCH AND
UNSCREW CYLINDER HEAD RELEASING GRIP AND WASHER.
6. REMOVE O-RING SEALS AND FROM CYLINDER HEAD.
7. PUSH PISTON ASSEMBLY FROM CYLINDER HOUSING AND REMOVE O-
RING SEAL

CLEANING AND INSPECTION


1. WASH ALL METAL PARTS IN DRY CLEANING FLUID OR SUITABLE
SOLVENT.
2. WASH O-RING IN CLEAN HYDRAULIC FLUID.
3. THROUGHLY INSPECT ALL PARTS AND DISCARD THOSE WHICH ARE
DAMAGED OR EXCESSIVELY WORN.

REASSEMBLY
1. REASSEMBLE ALL THE PISTON PARTS.
2. LUBRICATE CYLINDER WALLS OF BRAKE HOUSING AND
CONTACTING SURFACE OF PISTON AND THREADS OF CYLINDER
HEAD WITH A THIN COAT OF MIL-L-7711 GREASE.
3. LUBRICATE O-RING SEALS WITH MIL-L-GREASE AND INSTALL IN
GROOVES PROVIDED IN CYLINDER HEAD.
4. LUBRICATE O-RING SEAL WITH MIL-L-7711 GREASE AND INSTALL ON
PISTON.
5. INSTALL PISTON INTO POSITION IN BRAKE HOUSING.
6. PLACE CYLINDER HEAD OVER END OF ADJUSTING PIN AND SCREW
INTO POSITION IN BRAKE HOUSING UNTIL CYLINDER HEAD IS FLUSH
WITH FACE OF BRAKE PLUS OR MINUS 0.015 INCH.
7. PLACE WASHER AND ADJUSTING PIN GRIP TAPERED END OUT, ON
ADJUSTING PIN.
8. FORCE PISTON AGAINST CYLINDER HEAD AND INTALLED
ADJUSTING NUT, HOLD CYLINDER HEAD WITH ADAPTER 43193 AND
TORQUE TO 15 POUND FEET.
9. INSTALL INLET GASKET, BLEEDER ADAPTER, BLEEDER VALVE,
BLEEDER WASHER AND BLEEDER SCREW.
10. PLACE LININGS IN PISTON AND ANVIL.
11. INSTALL BRAKE DISC BETWEEN LININGS.
12. INSTALL BRAKE ON AXLETORQUE FLANGE AND SECURE.
13. CONNECT HYDRAULIC LINE.
14. INSTALL WHEEL ON BRAKE, ADJUST AND SAFETY.
15. BLEED BRAKES AND APPLY PRESSURE SEVERAL TIMES TO SET
AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM.
16. CHECK TO SEE THAT WHEELS TURNS FREELY WHEN BRAKES ARE
RELEASED.

PRECAUTION
1. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE ADJUSTING PIN.
2. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE ADJUSTING NUTS BE TORQUED
ACCURATELY TO OBTAIN CORRECT FUNCTIONING OF THE
AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM.

WE HAVE INSPECT ALL WHEEL BRAKES ASSEMBLY COMPONENTS
AND PARTS. SUBJECT TO THE PARTS CHANGE ARE MADE BY REFERRING TO
THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS MANUAL.
