Lesson: Kite Festivals Around the world
Content Area: Turkish- World Language
Description/Abstract of Lesson: Students will identify different shapes of the kites and
recognize various countries where kite festivals organized.
Timeline of Lesson: Two 42-minute periods
ACTFL Standards (Objectives)
Interpersonal Communication: Students can communicate on some very familiar topics using
single words and phrases that I have practiced and memorized.
Presentational Speaking: Students can present information about myself and some other very
familiar topics using single words or memorized phrases.
Presentational Writing: Students can copy some familiar words, characters, or phrases.
Interpretive Listening: Students can recognize a few memorized words and phrases when I hear
them spoken.
Interpretive Reading: I can recognize a few letters or characters. I can identify a few
memorized words and phrases when I read.
Lesson Objectives: SWBAT identify different shapes, colors and sizes looking at the different
kites. Students will recognize kite festivals around the world and identify various countries. They
will compare and contrast the different types of kites and methods of flying a kite from different
cultures and review months and seasons.
Materials: Country Flags, Various shape of kites, flashcards, projector and computer.

Introduction : In order to grab the attention of students teacher will bring in various shape of
kites and start with the question of, What do you think these are? After that teacher will name
kites and describe why they are named so. Teacher will ask them to give different facts about
kites, like what color is it, what shape is it, what does it mean? There will be a PowerPoint to
show the different types of kites around the world and the different cultures that fly kites.

Instructional Activities and Procedures: Students will be given different reading parts about
kite festivals containing description of the festivals. Students will read the parts and form groups
to discuss about the festivals.

Differentiated instruction : Special education students or new students will go online to Quizlet
to read the same reading part. Students will be able to listen the prerecorded parts and read it at
the same time they will be able to flip flash cards to be able to see the description of each reading
part.

Evaluation : Students will be given a short research paper to go around and ask 3-4 classmates
about kite festivals in the target language then they will record the answer in the target language
and submit the paper to the teacher.

Closure: Students will use Plickers cards to exit the classroom. Each question will appear on the
projector screen then students will use preprinted barcodes to choose the best answer. Teacher
will use his cellphone to scan the barcodes that students hold and reveal the answer.
