Kahoot PD

1. Rationale and ScreenCast


I remember one time my sister who is in high school came to me very excited about
an online tool that their English teacher introduced to her and her classmates and the
name of this tool is (Kahoot). Therefore, I searched about it and I found a lot
interesting information about and how it can be used. Basically, this online tool is
designed for quizzes that assist the teacher to observe their students comprehension
about the lesson that they took previous.

The PD session will be about Kahoot tool and how it can be used among teachers to
make their teaching much more fun and engaging with their students. Therefore, in
the ScreenCast there is specific information about the PD session including
description of the tool as well as why it is essential. Furthermore, there is also a
section that includes the agenda of the PD session and what is except from the
participants to achieve.

b) How the outcomes map to preparing teachers to help students to be college
and career ready

The PD session would assist the teachers to be aware of the students performance
through quizzes or dialogues. Therefore, using this tool would give the opportunity
for the teachers to create quizzes that can develop students thinking. In other words,
through the designed quizzes, the students will try their best to think more in deep to
get the correct answer. Besides quizzes, teachers can create activities that students can
play it in groups or in pairs to solve the questions.

Therefore, in the college and career life the students would learn concepts that would
help them in their lives. For example:

1- Students will be able to get use with technology tools since most of colleges and
outside jobs required to have experiences about technology.

2- Students will be able to learn about collaboration since it is a demanding skill in


college and many jobs where it is required to have a group work to do a project or
present different ideas.

3- Students will have the courage to take quizzes especially the types of quizzes that
required from the students to think rather than memorizing the information.

4- Finally, the students will be able to finish their tasks quickly since Kahoot will
teach the students to answer the questions in a short time.

c) How the outcomes and associated activities meet the needs of diverse
learners?

The learners will be introduced with different materials to insure their understanding
of the online tool. For example:

1- Providing a tutorial video to have a better understanding of the tool and how it is
used.
2- There will be open-ended questions that aimed to guide the learners about the
tool as well the learners will have the chance to ask questions to make everything
clear.
3- Also, there will be materials like, smartphones to apply the online tool to make it
easier for the learners to comprehend especially with the visual learning style.
4- Moreover, there will be a PowerPoint presentation that allows the learners to see
the process step by step.
5- In addition, there will be group work that required from each group to think and
create their own quiz and share it with others. This would help to develop the
cooperative learning.

f) Strategies to promote digital citizenship

1- The PD room will be equipped with computer/ data-show/ iPads.


2- Internet access for the participants.
3- The PD sessions will be equipped with tables and chairs are divided in groups.
4- (Kahoot) Website.
5- YouTube/ guided websites about the online tool.
6- Online discussing board (Padlet).
7- KWL chart that will be given in the beginning of the session that will be post it
online.
8- Smart phones are necessary from the participants.
9- Pens/ colors/ posters are required to assist the participant to create a poster about
the advantages of using Kahoot.
10- Screen O Matic program to post their understanding of the given topic (Kahoot).
11- Participants will be required to do a survey about the session and write their

3. Recourses needed
Internet access to help the participants to see the videos and search about
the given topics.
A laptop with a data-show that would be easier for the participants to see
the content of the presentation.

4. Training materials
A guided presentation about Kahoot that will be an introduction about how
it works.
A tutorial about Kahoot from YouTube that would give the participants an
idea of how exactly can be used.
An activity (short quiz) of how the Kahoot tool will work.
Activities are clear to the participants with clear instructions.
Guided papers that include the important websites that explaining this
online tool.
Survey that allow the participants to express their opinion about Kahoot
PD session.

The Kahoot online tool is a very interactive tool since the students can be the leaders
about their own learning. Also, it makes the students more motivated toward their
own learning and takes control of it. Also, this online tool can be used by students
where they can create short quizzes to their classmates and that can increase their
self-esteem and give them the chance to search more in deep and think. Not to
mention that students can have so much fun while using this platform. Finally,

Kahoot can be used as a formative assessment where the teachers can record their
students progress and mark their performance.

Comparing among the types of quizzes that are introduced to students, Kahoot
showed that students got more score than other types of quizzes and that indicates that
using the correct way of the online tool would help the students to achieve more. In
addition to the scores, the results showed that students who used Kahoot were highly
motivated and satisfied about their own achievement. All in all, using game-based
learning approach has a big impact on how students can learn effectively especially
with these skills like, thinking of problem-solving skill, learn to solve the answers
quickly, and keep the learner all the time motivated which helps them to learn more
and more.
