St. Gregory of Nyssa
The Lord inspires and sustains our wavering hope. He set Peter’s feet firm on the
surface of the water when the apostle began to sink. When he sees us drowning in
our doubts and worries, he stretches out his hand, which is the Word, and
enlightens our mind; if we walk hand in hand with Him, we will know no fear.

• Pilgrimage 2010 – to the Eparchial Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
in Olympia, Washington, August 20-21. Join Bishop Gerald, priests and faithful
from throughout the Eparchy for a spiritually refreshing and rejuvenating
weekend. Divine Liturgies, Matins and Vespers, a spiritual conference, and the
Holy Mysteries of Penance and Anointing of the Sick will highlight the
weekend. The Byzantine Challenge (contest) and children’s activities are also

• The 76th Annual Pilgrimage in Honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
will be held at Mount St. Macrina, Uniontown, PA, September 3-6, 2010 (Labor
Day Weekend). It holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest Byzantine
Catholic Pilgrimage in the United States. The Sisters invite you to join the many
who will come to honor Our Lady of Perpetual Help at this most blessed

Fridays in general are marked as days of simple abstinence or equivalent
penance. Let us remember each other as we offer prayers and sacrifices to God, in
union with the Cross of Christ.
Note (from the Typikon): Water was formerly blessed frequently, usually
on the first day of the month. The blessing for August 1 is the only one retained in
the Typikon. The water blessed on these occasions was not kept, unlike the
Theophany water.
