Collaboration and Communication Picture Activity

I chose the above picture to exemplify the importance of collaboration among the
students, parents, and teachers. The most important part of this picture is the dark and light blue
arrows that connect each group to the other. The arrows are significant because they illustrate
that the relationship between each group is not just a one way conversation. By working
together, the teacher and parent can then work with the student. This leads to a well-established
support group both at home and in school to foster the students academic success.
The above picture was chosen to demonstrate the importance of communication. While
parents and teachers are different, both have the interest of the child at the center of the
conversation. Additionally, I thought that this photo was effective at showing the involvement of
the child in the conversation as well. As we learned in our Literacy on the Secondary Level class
this past semester, when the child feels heard and like he/she has a say in their learning, their
confidence grows in correlation to their motivation to learn. Therefore, by incorporating the
child into their conversation, teachers and parents can better monitor that the students needs are
being met, which as seen by the previous picture, leads to academic success.
