Professional Development Plan
2016-2017

All Anoka-Hennepin probationary teachers participate in induction/mentor activities at their building


and/or through district professional development. This professional development delivers rigorous,
research-based learning experiences and resources, which are designed to challenge and support
probationary teachers in order to increase student achievement. This work is in accordance with the

Work Agreement, which states:

Article VI, Section I Duty Days, Subd. 1. There shall be 187 days of service for teachers. The duty year
for new teachers (probationary first year and new probationary third year) shall include an additional
three days of orientation prior to the commencement of the school year and the equivalent of one
additional day outside the normal duty day during the school year for new teacher induction activities.

Anoka Hennepin P1 and NEW P3 Teachers (New to District) REQUIRED:

SPED New Teachers are required to attend two additional (paid) courses:
4 hours - Due Process Essentials 1 and Due Process Essentials 2
(see next page, special education only)

Probationary teachers should discuss their plans for completing these hours with their principal.
Courses will be held at Staff Development Center, 2727 North Ferry Street, Anoka, MN.
Registration for all district courses must be done ONLINE through Anoka Hennepin Learning
Management System (LMS). Please refer to handout called Accessing and Registering for Staff
Development Courses for accessing the LMS and registration instructions. You will have an opportunity to
sign up for these sessions during New Teacher Workshop; however, if your paperwork has not gone through
the channels, you will need to do at a later time and keep trying until your log in is active. Registrations
should be completed by September 14. For questions on your required courses, please contact the
Teaching and Learning Specialist for your discipline.

To be offered through both an online setting and through a face-to-face facilitation model
Course Description: This session will provide an overview of digital applications which will assist each teacher

Course Title: Due Process Essentials 1: Overview - Required
Course Description: This session will provide a review of important Due Process Requirements. This information
is crucial basic knowledge for staff who case manage students resources available to all Anoka-Hennepin
teachers for staff who case manage students. *Staff members are required to attend the first two hours, and are
encouraged to stay for the duration. Staff members that attend the full session will be paid for the two
additional hours.

Course Title: PAS and Q-Comp Orientation
Course Description: P1 and new P3 teachers will learn all about the PAS/Q-Comp process. Topics include: the
observation process, writing and monitoring Student Achievement Goals, rubric components, using AHEP. As
part of the training, teachers will log into AHEP and select their look-for document.

Course Description: This session is a voluntary building paid session for secondary probationary teachers NEW
to Anoka Hennepin (first year teaching with Anoka Hennepin - P1s and New P3s). This is a practical, hand-on,
teacher-friendly look at our free information resources, overview of the copyright law, the most frequent
questions teachers ask, and an overview of the research process used in Anoka-Hennepin.

Course Title: Functional Behavioral Assessment
Course Description: A well done FBA provides a valuable tool in determining what is the underlying function of the
students behavior. Knowing the function provides crucial information necessary in determining an appropriate behavior
plan. Since an FBA is one of the only portions of an evaluation completed by teaching staff, staff are often hesitant about
the process. This session will define the requirements and provide staff with assistance in this process with tips for
completion.

Course Description: Are you interested in being a part of a cohort where you have reflective conversations with your
colleagues about the professional rewards and challenges you are dealing with on a daily basis? Early in their careers,
teachers often find themselves in settings that are challenging both personally and professionally. This class, facilitated
by a Q-Comp Peer Evaluator, is designed to help you and your colleagues reflect upon your teaching experience and
move forward professionally. Over the course of four meetings, the cohort will provide an avenue for you to analyze,
evaluate and discuss your teaching experience; and give you valuable and practical information about practical concerns
like classroom and behavior management, lesson planning, and working with parents.

Course Description: During second trimester, all returning P2 and P3 teachers will participate in three hours of

personalized staff development with a Q-Comp Peer Evaluator The three hours will be scheduled flexibly and catered to
the needs of the teacher. Staff development activities will consist of a series of meetings, written reflections, and
observations, similar to those conducted with continuing contract teachers on low cycle. They may include: planning
conversations with your Peer-Evaluation, observations by your Peer Evaluator, observations of veteran teacher, and
reflective conferences with your Peer-Evaluator.
