RESCUE DEVICE (A.R.D.

) FOR TRACTION LIFTS

Automatic emergency functioning for mains blackout (power failure).

An internal logic circuit chooses the best direction, taking the lift car to floor level and opening the
doors letting the passengers safely outside.

Suitable for any winch motor lift plant.

Works on both new and old plants.

Minimum maintenance.

The A R D equipment operates automatically upon occurrence of a mains blackout. It drives the hoist gear
motor by means of a static frequency converter powered by a bank of storage batteries, brings the car to
the nearest floor and opens the automatic doors.

During the emergency operation a special load sensing circuit automatically chooses the best travel
direction in counterweighted lift systems, whenever an unbalance is detected between the car load and
the counterweight.

The automatic rescue device UPS operates immediately and, powered by an internal battery,
enables the arrival of the lift to the nearest floor at low speed and opens the automatic doors.

Emergency communication.
Most elevators have an Alarm Bell and Most and Telephone or Intercom.
It is also important to have a functioning emergency light in the elevator to avoid leaving
a trapped passenger in the dark as leaving as they wait for assistance.

Types of emergencies

Person trapped in elevator car

The 3 most common reasons:

Power failure.
Malfunction of control components.
Deactivation of safety equipment.
Power failure

If its going to be short term, its best not to attempt a rescue. Explain the
situation to the occupant. Calm and reassure them and let them know that
they are not in danger and steps are being taken to remove them safely.
If emergency power is available, it can be used.

If there is no emergency power, then shut off the power to that elevator in
the machine room.
This will prevent any unexpected movement of traction type elevators when
the power is restored.

Upon power failure, a car automatically moves to the nearest floor using a rechargeable battery
to facilitate the safe evacuation of passengers.

Malfunction of control components

Shut off the power to the elevator in the machine room.

This will prevent any unexpected movement of the car when the power is restored.
However, if you have a true emergency, try a Phase I recall or turning the
power off and on to see if the system will restart correctly.

*Remember; do not restart an elevator without consulting an

elevator technician.
If this does not work leave the power to the elevator off in the
machine room.
If this does not work leave the power to the elevator off in the machine room.
Whenever you turn the power off to an elevator, leave a member with a radio and fire phone (if
available), to guard the switch.

Deactivation of safety equipment.

In this situation you should wait for an elevator technician. Leave the power on to the elevator.
This will help the technician in determining the problem.
However, if you have to perform a rescue, turn off the main power to the elevator in the machine
room.
If the hoistway door has an escutcheon tube, insert the appropriate key and release the hoistway
door interlock, and open the doors and the passengers are out.
