Week 6 Reflection

This week in Religion class, we primarily talked about the calling of Jesus 12 apostles.

Most people can name if not all, a good portion of the 12 apostles, who were the 12 men, chosen

by Jesus himself, in the most unlikely places, to join his ministry. These 12 men were appointed

as the Shepherds of the Church, and were tasked with helping to lead the community of Disciples

of Christ, and all of his believers. Jesus ascension into heaven to be, once again, with his father,

put the ministry of his church, the Catholic Church, into the hands of his 12 disciples. It was now

their responsibility to preach the everlasting word of God, and to forgive the sins of catholic

sinners.

Today, the duty of the apostles is passed down through primarily, but limited to the

cardinals and bishops. The cardinals are the lineage of the 12 apostles, but their duty has been

spread out amongst the bishops, priests, and deacons, as well as the pope, simply because of the

size of the Catholic Church. Christ, before leaving entrusted one of the, if not the most important

roles of Church leaders, in they had to proclaim Gods word to everybody, even if those people

did not want to hear it. This led to the execution of many of the apostles, who became martyrs,
simply because they refused to denounce Christ. I think that is truly amazing, and I think they

had incredible courage and faith, to stay loyal to Christ, even though they knew it would result in

their own death.
