-Students will create a crossword that asks questions about the main characters,
including some of the major events
-students will write a narrative based on a positive or negative event that could happen
at market day
-students will complete 3 tasks from the spelling rubric

Assessment:
-assessment will be done through observation and correction of students work

Lesson content:
Reading response
Introduction:
With the whole classes attention, begin asking questions about what has happened
previously in The Magic Faraway Tree. What happened in the last chapter? what
characters were involved? why did this happen? Begin reading chapter to class. At the
end of the chapter ask questions about what was read to clarify students understanding
of the events of the story.

Development:
Move students attention now to the whiteboard where the reading response task is
written. Their task for this lesson is to create a crossword that asks questions about the
Main characters, including some of the major events. Ask students what they think it
means by ask questions. Explain that the answer to the questions is the answer for the
crossword. Explain that they will have 15 minutes to complete this task before we share
some students ideas at the end.

Consolidation:
While students are working, rove around the classroom ensuring they are on task.

Conclusion:
At the conclusion of the reading response, allow time for students to share some of the
questions and answers they included in their crosswords.

Literacy groups
while students are still focused after reading response, advise that they are now going to
move onto literacy groups. Explain what each group will be doing out of the 4 activities.
-Activity 1: grammar with the teacher on the smart board
-Activity 2: narrative on market day
-Activity 3: 3 tasks from the spelling rubric
-Activity 4: reading response with short stories

Set students to task, while working, walk around classroom offering assistance to those
who need it.

At the conclusion of the lesson, allow time for 1 student from each group to share their
work with the class.
