The True Meaning of Legs
Christopher Reeve once said I am optimistic. But I also know that, with

time, I'm beginning to fight issue of paralysis. Being paralyzed for a month

reveals to me the true meaning of having a family and friends in my life.

They stop by my side in well-being and in distress. However, the major

problem was that I didnt know the main reason behind the disease. The

word health plays a pivotal role in everybody life because if we are physically

and mentally healthy, then we can definitely enjoy a healthy life too. In this

essay, my goal is to discuss in a reportorial way what happened during this

terrible experience and how I get out safe from it.

After I finished my final exams at Al Akhawayn University, I decided to

go back to my hometown in order to see my family and to spend a beautiful

Christmas break with my friends. I was very excited and over happy because

I did not see my family for a long time. When I arrived to Tetouan, my eyes

flooded crying because I understood at the time what my mother says to me

about leaving your city. My mother was overjoyed and blessed to be next to

her again. I remembered at that time that everything was quite normal; in

fact, my mother cooked me my favorite meal which I ate it without

hesitation. After that, I went to my bedroom in order to have some rest after

a long journey that I had. I spent the three following days just in my sweet
home watching movies and doing nothing. Unfortunately, the fourth day was

the worst day in my life. I remembered that I slept that day and I woke up

paralyzed. My mother was shock and she did not believe what happened to

me. I did not felt my legs at all, and when I was trying to stand on my feet, I

fallen on the ground. I was very scary and terrifying because we did not know

what we should do. My mother felt a wave of fear rush through her and panic

started to engulf her.

The big issue was that we did not know what the main reason behind

the disease. All we said that this was because the cold weather of Ifrane. My

father pick me up to an Orthopedic doctor in order to see a solution for a

problem but all in vain. The doctor mentioned that I must see a neurologist

because this disease has a relation with neuron not with bones. Next day, my

father went to the clinic in order to make an appointment with the

neurologist. After he succeed, we went to him and we stay waiting for our

turn for four hours because the clinic was full of people. After keep waiting

for a long time, the nurse came to us saying that your turn came. Once I

entered the office, the neurologist was shocked. He asked me kindly to leave

the office and dad stay with him face to face. I knew from his sound that I am

in a big trouble. After I spent thirty minutes waiting for the result, my father

came out from the office of the doctor collapsible. Tears welled up in his eyes

and began rolling down his cheeks like rivulets. His eyes were puffy and red

after all the crying. He felt the whole world collapsing upon him. No one

could express his agony. He told me sadly that I probably had a cancer on
spinal cord and the doctor did not know the type of disease, and I must

immediately pass the Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI).

At that night, I travelled with my father travelled to Casablanca to pass

the MRI. My phone did not stop ringing. The whole family were trying to call

us in order know any new news. I passed an hour and half into this machine

like a hell. After I passed the test, we stayed in the hotel for another day

waiting for the result but thanks to god the result was positive and I did not

have a cancer. I went back to my hometown. I found my family and a lot of

my friends in my home waiting for me. They were over the moon when they

heard the good news. Their eyes glittered with tears of joy. My mum bright

smile was infectious, lighting up the room. My friends were saturated with

happiness. I remembered that at that time I felt as if the whole world was on

my side. I went after I saw my family to the doctor office and he mentioned

to me that everything is going to be all right. He told me to stay in the clinic

for a week in order to take the medicines. Indeed, I took the medicines in the

hospital, and most of the medicines were anaesthetized. In fact, I did not feel

the days pass, and most of my family and my friends I did not recognized

them as my mother said when they visited me. Now, I follow a treatment

that I must take another medicines for four month because this disease may

show again, and I must not practice sports or any activities.

To sum up, health is an important factor today in everybody life. Health

is a treasure that is irreplaceable in our lives. This terrible experience has an

important effect in my life. From this experience I learned the true meaning
of legs. I know now the true feeling of having no legs. From another side, I

knew the importance of having a family and friends. They were on my side in

weal and scourge. One should treat his family and friends with respect and

appreciation so that they will treat him the same. In brief, one should never

underestimate the family, and to know why health is so precious.
