PROBLEM STATEMENT :
The number of vehicles in the
city are increasing day by day.
Leading to busy roads and Traffic
congestion in peak hours.

Cutting down on the number of

vehicles owned by a or family
is not feasible due to requirement
of each individual.

So in a way, traffic is a resource available in abundance everyday.

This resource can be harnessed to do some effective work

CONCEPT :

A setup resembling that of a conventional

rumble stripes/Speed breaker hump will be
installed on the roads to use the running traffic
and generate electricity.

The vehicle movement will push the plates

mounted on the roads.

With the help of a rack and pinion mechanism, the up-down translational motion of the
plates will be converted into rotational motion.

This rotational motion will be used to drive the armature of a generator and hence
generate the required voltage.

A gear train will be installed to match the desired armature speeds.

WHY USE THIS IDEA FOR A SMART CITY?

Free and clean energy

Electricity can be generated without any extra inputs

Can serve the dual purpose of acting as a speed breaker

hump and a generator.

No shortage of resources as there is always some vehicle

moving on the roads.

The output of the generator may be used to power electrical accessories road side like street
lamps or may be stored in a battery to be utilized later.

The mechanism is simple and it is very easy to carry out maintenance as no complicated design
is involved. The setup lies under the road and does not affect the aesthetics of the road as well.
 The smartness lies in the fact that electricity is being made available without any
extra fuel or manpower

If the traffic cannot be curbed the number of vehicles on the roads cannot be reduced,
let us use these to create something that we all use in our day to day lives .
