Hero or Villain

There is one man in the western hemisphere that people refer to as a dictator, yet others

call him a savior or good friend. This man is a savior among his people and followers and he is

one person that survived multiple attempts on his by a nation that refused to help him, and his

name is Fidel Castro. In 1950, Castro graduated from the the University of Havana and soon

opened a law office. As an accomplished tactician on the battlefield, he and his small army of

Guerrillas overthrew the military leader of cuba Fulgencio Batista in 1959. Castro also joined the

Partido Orthodoxo, which was a political party that wanted to reform the Cuban government.

Fidel Castro was apart of the plan to overthrow the Dominican Republics dictator Rafael

Trujillo. In failing health, Fidel Castro officially handed over power to his brother, Raul Castro,

in 2008. He later died in 2016 leaving his legacy and a number of different reactions to his

departure. Fidel Castro is a hero because even though others did not approve of the way he ran

cuba under his leadership, he continued to do what he thought was right and ultimately helped

his people have better lives.

Fidel Castro has been an enemy of the US, but to his people he was a kind of savior.

While in power, Castro managed to help his people in ways the old government could not such

as high quality public healthcare. Castro made an enemy of the US when he overthrew the old

government and the US refused to help castro, he turned to the Soviet Union and they agreed to

help each other. His actions lead others to believe that Castro was a tyrant while his people

thanked him in the long run. Castros significance in latin americas history will be one of the

most discussed topics in the future.

Fidel castro was apart of one of the greatest incidents in latin american history known as

the Cuban missile crisis. Due to the rejection of US assistance, Castro turned to the Soviet Union

which is a communist nation as well. He united with the enemy of the United States in order to

get the things he needed for his people. In result, US officials branded Castro and cuba as

dangerous for allowing the USSR to keep nuclear weapons in cuba, which was a national threat

to the US. Fidel Castro was willing to make enemies in order to keep Cuba in control.
