Brief Summary of Content and Target Audience for Canterbury Village
My idea for the content of my website is to explore the concept
of social media and democracy. They have many influences on each other, both negative and positive. I would like to take a closer look at some of the positives social media can have on democracy, particularly for college age students. The few that come to mind are knowledge, awareness and participation. Social media can be used as the medium for college students (or anyone in general) to become informed of what democracy in America means. Social media can allow them to become aware of the many issues faced in democracy. Finally (at least for the purpose of this website), social media can be the force students use to get active in democracy by sharing their knowledge and awareness. Social media has become a major platform for conversation and students have the ability to bring democracy to the conversation.
When I think of a target audience the first thing that comes to
my mind is college aged students between the ages of 18 and 25. I would like to directly aim my website at the population of people who have just begun voting and who are primarily responsible for the future. I think this is the generation that can really change the conversation of democracy on social media. I would also like to aim the website at a slightly younger audience, one that does yet have to ability to vote but should still have a say. I think it is important to get this population informed and talking because they are also very crucial to the future of our country. The sooner people can become knowledgeable, the more informed their decisions will become in the future. Another possible TA could be officials of democracy. I would image they would be interested in the implementation of social media in democracy especially geared towards the generation mentioned above. The key to successful discussion on social media (or anywhere) is proper knowledge. I would want to target this audience and gear them towards providing the proper information.
