Week 2 Assignment

The Nevada state system of public education functions like a band. The bands producer is the

governor, the lead singer is the state legislature, the bands agent is the state board of education, the bass

player is the state superintendent of public instruction, and the bands manager is the Nevada Plan.

The governor is the bands producer because it is the governors job to make bills into laws, and

has the power to veto bills. This is similar to how a producer pulls the band together, creating a musical

vision, the producer turns ideas into realities and can stop a band from making bad decisions.

The State Legislature is the lead singer because it is their job to create bills to improve education

that the governor approves or disapproves. This is similar to how a lead singer writes the songs and

creates ideas for the band, getting approval from their producer before releasing it to the bands listeners.

The lead singer is typically the driving force, creating the lyrics to the music, similar to how the State

Legislature creates bills.

The State Board of Education is the bands agent because it is their job to ensure that all students

have equal access to educational services, and they work with other organizations to improve student

success. This is similar to how an agent manages the business affairs of the band, booking performances

and ensuring that the band cooperates and works well as a band.

The State Superintendent of Public Instruction is the bass player because they make decisions and

lead the Department of Education, similar to how the bass player controls the pulse of the music and drives

the songs to their completion, and to the best that they can be.
 The Nevada Plan is the bands manager because it is the funding formula for public education,

dividing how funds are divided among different groups. This is similar to the bands manager because they

are in charge of finding enough money for instruments and organizes the group, attending to their needs.

Similar to how the Nevada Plan also outlines what will happen if something goes wrong, such as not

enough money for all schools, the manager plans what to do in emergencies and handles them.
