Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own
paragraph)

A. Pedestrians are being blamed for either being distracted when they cross the streets,
drunk or wearing dark clothing. People are looking into seeing the fault in the
pedestrians fatalities. Maybe the streets are too small or there are few crosswalks.
B. Cars drive at highway speeds on the small narrow roads. It is very dangerous when
pedestrians have to cross the road because there are few crosswalks and in order to find
one they will need to walk out their way to access one. Florida is updating its road design
to help the pedestrian cross better without being so dangerous.
C. To help the cars / vehicles slow down they are thinking about adding a few trees and
buildings to the side of the 12 feet wide lanes. They say the more drivers feel crowded,
the slower they will drive.

Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).

I feel like they shouldve acted on the situation right there and then instead of waiting. The
streets in Delaware need to be bigger and be added on. The roads in Florida need to be checked
to see why there are pedestrian fatalities over there whether it is fast drivers or no crosswalks. I
like that they are thinking of different opportunities to help the pedestrians.
Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).
In 2013, 4,735 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, not as much as
todays but just about. In 2017 Delaware and Florida have the highest rating for pedestrian
fatalities.

Relate your Event to the a subtheme (at least 3 sentences).

I relate my theme to Technology because the definition of technology is the application of
scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. I feel like when dealing with
the roads its all about knowledge. You have to deal with engineering when building or
constructing new roads or making improvements.

Questions You Have About the Event (4).

1. If the stats were already high for the pedestrians fatalities in Florida and Delaware
why didnt they do something at that time?
2. Why dont they make the lanes bigger in Delaware?
3. Instead of building trees and buildings to slow the drivers, why cant they make more
roads for the drivers in Delaware?
4. Why are there barely any crosswalks or road signs in Delaware route 13?
