RUN THE INSTALLATION FILE AS ADMINISTRATOR

(to run the installation file use the right button of the mouse)

Installing winMASW or HoliSurface

1. Plug in your winMASW (o HoliSurface) USB dongle

2. Uninstall any previous winMASW (o HoliSurface) release/version

3. Lunch (double click) the installation file (for instance

Install_winMASW71Acd.exe) in your winMASW DVD and scrupulously
follow the simple and common installation procedures (see and carefully
read also the following pages).

PAY ATTENTION
If you install the software in a folder where a previous version of winMASW was
installed, all the old files in that folder (thus also all the datasets which were saved
in all the sub-folders) will be cancelled.
Consequently, choose another folder or backup your old datasets first.

NEW 64BIT COMPUTERS (OPERATING SYSTEMS)

The releases 7.0 (and successive) work only on 64bit machines

Training data

In the DVD is also present a folder ("Demo_Datasets_dissemination") with some

training data (which are published in various papers and in the Elsevier book).
Copy the folder on your PC/Desktop and play with the data (by comparing your
analyses with the ones published in the indicated documents).

Installation:
Launch the appropriate installer (standard, Pro o Academy) as Administrator of the system
(right button of your mouse run as administrator):

winMASW exploits some Matlab libraries:

In case the Matlab libraries are already present in your PC, choose "Modify" in the dialog
window shown down here:

If a message like this

is shown during the installation, do not worry and ignore it (click "OK").

Once installation is completed, the winMASW (or HoliSurface) icon will appear on your
Desktop:

Also, a group winMASW is created on the Windows programs main menu (see snapshot):

Firewalls and parallel computing

If your firewall is particularly strict, it is possible that when you lunch the software a message like
the following appears:

This happens cause, in order to exploit all the workers/cores of your machine, it is necessary to
perform some operation that must be explicitly allowed.
So do not worry and allow to do that.

Possible problems with some anti-virus systems

Some anti-virus systems might be unable to manage the software protection based on the
envelope system such as the one adopted by FEITIAN). In this case it is possible that your anti-
virus will warn you about a trojan in the winMASW.exe binary application. In that case just tell the
anti-virus to ignore the folder where you are installing winMASW. Smarter anti-virus systems (we
might suggest the free and excellent AVG) do not have such a problem which so far occurred with
AVAST, AVIRA and Panda.

the Appendix Bugs in the winMASW manual (tha manual can also be downloaded from the
www.winamsw.com internet site).
