Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own paragraph

A. Kenyatta A. C. Hinkle created paintings and drawings about african american women that

have gone missing which was represented at a museum. The paintings didn't have a very clear

definition of what was going on, but had dashes of color to accent certain parts. The paintings

made you wonder what and who the were about.

B. Ms. Hinkle aimed to give a voice to those missing African-American women; from those who

were kidnapped, murder, sex trafficking or any other cause. The art she created wasn't to show

specific women, but to evoke individuality. She said its a beauty as to inspire great admiration,

she wanted to say that for every missing face there is a family, and things they like/love.

C. Ms. Hinkle said the exhibition was eight years in the making; she spent most of her career

focused on the issue of erasure. She talked about how she was taught that if she felt injustice
or an abuse of authority she should never be afraid to speak up. Ms. hinkle focuses on history

or calls on it through her canvases, sketchbooks, and etc. She makes history talk through her

art.

Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).

In my opinion the type of art she does is beautiful because she focuses on history especially,

with African-American and African women. Looking at her art really makes you think about the

events that are taking place and how major they are. What Ms. Hinkle does is really amazing it

gets people to really focus on how important something is and its told in a artiscally type of way.

Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).

An historical event I am relating my event to is The Unspoken Epidemic Of Missing Black

Women In U.S. both of the articles talked about the disappearance of women of colour.

However The Unspoken Epidemic had a statistical view that there is a majority of african

women who disappeared more than any other race. They also talked about how media could

stereotype the reason why these women have been disappearing. The event I chose One

Artists Melancholy talked about how Ms. Hinkle wanted to represent the women who have

disappeared to give them a voice. It also talked about why she touches on history of african

women using her painting. Both of the articles talked about the 64,00 women who disappeared

in DC.

Relate your Event to the a Theme (at least 3 sentences). SEE BACK FOR THEMES

A theme I would relate this event to is cultural interaction because the topic about the missing

women had many people involved or well there has been people that tried to get involved and

some type way. Ms. Hinkle got involved by trying to put an image out there not showing exactly

what it was meant for but giving an individuality to every women. Even famous people got

involved by posting hashtag missing DC girls.
