the flat joint.

The critical step is the positioning of the cover upon the screen

1. Place the cover sliding carefully the cables inside the aperture.

2. Place 2 screws identified A on the picture without screwing them

completly in the way to pre position the cover.

3. Approach the 4 screw without head gently inside there screen

5. Continue to slide the 4 screws without heads inside the tubes by

screwing without never tight them. The pressure of these screws on
the glass must be at the minima.

WARNING : Never tighten hardly these screws.

A too high pressure of the screw rods on the screen can
break the tactile glass or causes disfunctioning of it.

6. When the screws are in a ligth contact with the top of the tube, keep
the screws in position with an Allen key and lock this position with the
nuts.

CAUTION : After the screen assembly mounting, a touch screen calibration

must be performed (see chapter 5-1-1 Touch screen calibration).

3-3-3 FIBER DETECTION KIT REPLACEMENT

In case of wrong functioning of the fiber detection system, the
microswitches can be replaced.

Check with an ohm-meter the good commutation of the new

micro-switches like indicated below.

The value between the pins must be :

Switches released : infinite

Switches pressed : 0

Unsold the two yellow cables on the cavity board.

Remove the switches by unscrewing the 4 screws with an Allen key.
Replace it by a new switches assembly (the switches come already
cabled, ready to be sold)

Place the new switches tightening slightly

the 4 screws.
Connect a fibre.
With the laser OFF, place an ohmmeter
on the both center pins of the switches,
and check that the contact close each
time the fibre is connected.
If it is not the case move it forward to
have the contact closed.
Tighten completely the 4 screws and
remove the fiber.
Yellow cables

Sold the two yellow cables on

the cavity board.
Test with the laser on, the fiber
detection.
If it is good place the cover
taking care to the cover cable
placement.
Test again the fiber detection. Jumper cable

CONTROL AREAS
Power :
Displays the power output set and
available at the output of the delivery
system.

Control parameters of the laser :

These parameters can not be
modified.
They are available in analogic (Volts
or Amps) as in numeric (points from 0
to 4095).
Cons diode : This is the command voltage for pumping diode. This
voltage is modulated between 0 and 3,3 Volts according
to the power setting.

Int cell : This is the internal cell reading value. This value is
adjusted by the software during the cavity calibration.
This value can be measured on the test point TP4 on
cavity board.

Ext Cell : This is the external cell reading value. This value is
adjusted by the software during the cavity calibration.
This value can be measured on the test point TP5 on
cavity board.
The external cell follow the internal one and is adjusted in
production area to be superimposed on the curve screen
with 5% tolerance.

I diode : This is the current used by the diode to produce the

laser effect according to the cell readings. This value is
adjusted during the cavity calibration and terminals
calibrations.

Power int : This is the power at the cavity output which depends of the
terminal efficiency set during terminal calibration.

These values are updated in real time before and during the shots :

- Standby and Ready mode :

- 'Cons Diode' depends on the displayed power.
- The cells do not see a laser beam (0V).
- The diode current is zero.
- 'Power Int' depends on the displayed power and the
terminal calibration.

- Firing : High current in the diode

The internal and external cells see a laser beam (voltages).
The cell values must be superimposed (with 5%
tolerance).

CAUTION : Before any calibration, check and set to the default value (500mW)
the doctor's calibration.

This calibration must be done during laser installation. The 4 terminals

are calibrated in manufacturing area with standard values
Before every calibration, check the Laser spot (well defined and
homogeneous) and the max. power at the delivery system output.

This is the adjustment of the necessary cavity power according to the

power lost in the terminal.
This calibration must be done with terminal adapter connected to the laser
and an external joulemeter.

CAUTION : An individual calibration must be realized for each connected

delivery system.

5-2-4 TEMPERATURE MODULATION

The temperatures of the cavity components can be modified by pressing
the temperature area.
The temperatures are adjusted in production area in the way to obtain a
curve profile as stable as possible on the full range of powers.
Never modify these temperatures before having advised the service
department in Quantel medical. Modification of these temperatures can be
necessary in case of unstable curves profile after transport, or evolution of
the optical component characteristics which produce some current peaks
influencing the cell stability.

Temp diode : This is the diode temperature which is adjusted in

production area according to the supplier specifications
in the way to optimise its efficiency and its wavelength
compatibility with the cristal.

The diode temperature setting have a direct effect on the

current consummation. That means that moving away
from this manufacturing temperature gives a risk of
current saturation at high powers.
P
Recommended incrementation during adjustment is3C.
The range of adjustment is between 15 and 40C.

Temp YV : This is the cristal temperature.

There is two levels of temperature for this component
according to the power setting.

In case of current peaks, increase the temperature will

move the peak later in the exposure and decrease the
temperature will approach the peak to the begining of the
shot.
The target will be first to reduce the peak intensity and
then to move the residual peak at the very begining of the
shot to form an overshoot.

Recommended incrementation during adjustment is1C.

The range of adjustment is between 15 and 40C.

2 temperature levels are available according to the power range used :

Temp YVb : This is the cristal temperature from 50mW to P Trans

excluded.

Temp YVh : This is the cristal temperature from P Trans level included
to the maximum power.

P Trans : Power level at which the crystal temperature change

from Temp YVb to Temp YVh.

Temp KTP : This is the frequency doubled cristal temperature.

It is the most sensible adjustment.
Recommended incrementation during adjustment is0.2C.
The target of this adjustment will be to eliminate the
current peak. The range is between 15C and 40C.

10-4 INSTALLATION CHECKING AND SETTINGS

10-4-1 TOUCH SCREEN CALIBRATION

After a software installation, it could be necessary to calibrate the screen.

Perform the touch screen calibration in service mode like indicated in
chapter 5-1-1

10-4-2 VITRA SETTINGS

Check and replace if necessary the settings in the following chronological
way :

1- CAVITY COMPONENT TEMPERATURES

Enter the value noted in the chapter '10-1-3 Temperature setting
values'.

2- CAVITY CALIBRATION
Perform the cavity calibration following the procedure described in
the chapter '5-2-3 Cavity calibration'.

3- TERMINAL CALIBRATION
Enter the value noted in the chapter '10-1-1 Terminal calibration
values'.

4- AIMING BEAM (650nm) CALIBRATION

Enter the value noted in the chapter '10-1-2 Aiming beam
calibration values'.
Check, with a milli-wattmeter, that the max power of aiming beam is
within the range 500W to 700W.

When the procedure is completed, press ESC to memorize the

settings.

Turn the key to off to reinitialize the securities.

10-4-3 FINAL CONTROL

In doctor mode, measure the terminal output energy at different values of

the power range available (low part, middle part and high part with low and
high exposure time).
P
Check that the reading values are inside a tolerance of 10% with the
requested values.
