1. Experiments for the Physics Practical test

EXPERIMENT 1.

Introduction:

- To investigate the relationship between the mass, m, of a material and its volume, V.

Apparatus:

Slotted weight, measuring cylinder, water

Diagram 1.

Procedure:

1. Setup the apparatus as the diagram show above.

2. Pouring amount of water inside the cylinder.
3. Measure the cylinder, V0 before the slotted weight is immersed in it.
4. Immersed the slotted weight inside the cylinder.
5. Measure the cylinder after a 50.0g slotted weight is immersed in it.
6. Repeat step 4 and 5 with masses, m = 100.0g, 150.0g, 200.0g, 250.0g
7. Tabulate the data for all values of m, Vi and V
8. Plot a graph of V against m

Diagram 1.2 Diagram 1.3

Diagram 1.2 shows the initial water level, V 0, in the measuring cylinder before the slotted weight is
immersed in it.
Diagram 1.3 shows the water level in the measuring cylinder when a 50.0g slotted weight is immersed in
it.
The procedure is repeated with masses, m = 100.0g, 150.0g, 200.0g, and 250.0g.
The corresponding water levels in the measuring cylinder are shown in Diagram 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7.

EXPERIMENT 2.

Introduction:

- To investigate the relationship between the voltage, V, and the current, I, flows through
a fixed length of a constantan wire.

Apparatus:

Dry cells, Switch, Ammeter, Constantan wire, Rheostat, Voltmeter.

Procedure:

1. Setup the apparatus as the Diagram 1.1, show above.

2. Shows the zero error, x, on the voltmeter.
3. Adjust the rheostat to set a value of current, I, to obtain the responding value of voltage, V.
4. Take the reading of voltmeter, V.
5. Repeated with the readings of I = 0.2A, 0.3A, 0.4A and 0.5A.

b. Based on Diagram 1.2, determine the zero error, x.

x = ______________________________ V

c. Record the readings of Vi, in spaces provided.

d. For each value of Vi, calculate the actual voltage across the conductor, V, by using following
equation:
V = Vi x
Where x is the zero error on the voltmeter.
Record the value of V, in spaces provided.

e. Tabulate the results for all values of I, Vi and V on space below

f. Draw a graph of V against I.

g. Based on the graph, state the relationship between V and I.
