Reflection/Analysis:

I really enjoyed my professional development over the past school year and would like to continue to grow in
this area next year as well. Since I was given the opportunity to attend a series of professional development
sessions, I was able to gain a lot of insight and share this insight with some fellow teachers. I hope to be able to
start fresh at the beginning of next school year with all of my new learning and continue to share this new
knowledge with other staff members. I have added a large amount of phonemic awareness activities into my
phonics instruction and have seen an impact on their independent reading growth. Out of the 14 students that I
have worked with in guided reading or phonics intervention, 12/14 have moved three or more guided reading
levels and 4/14 students have moved five or more guided reading levels. Next year I would like to start the year
with phonemic awareness screenings and beginning decoding surveys for students coming in below grade level.
As a grade level, we could also look at iReady reports and MAP reports closely to identify areas of need in

reading. I believe that we can see more growth if I can begin the year using my new knowledge and experience
from the 2016-2017 school year.
