Art Teacher: Ms.Schneck Contact: kschneck@tywlsqueens.org 2016-17

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

I look forward to teaching you/your child this year. We will be creating many different and exciting art projects. In order to
be prepared for success in Art class this year, there is a short list of supplies you will need to purchase. Please sign up for
Pupil Path because I send out important notifications regarding sketchbook check, due dates, homework, and other course
information.

Also note my email address is above. This is your best mode of contact with me. Students may also email me their
homework assignments at the above email ONLY.

We will have numerous opportunities to connect this year from the Winter and Spring Arts Showcases to TYWLS Paint
Nite. There will also be an offical invitiation for families to visit the newly renovated Art room. Last year TYWLS Queens
recieved a $20,000 grant from Lowes Home Improvement. Due to the funds receieved from this grant, students will have
more space to be creative, store their artwork, and have their work displayed in the classroom.

Please read all information below and class policies. The contract slip must be signed and returned. The contract will be
attached to the sketchbook in the inside front cover.

Sincerely,

Ms. Schneck

"A picture is worth a thousand word." We will discover the truth to this saying by analyzing work of old masters to

sculpting, and printmaking, the list goes on, you will see that art is so much more than you originally thought.

Accuracy (application of skills), Craftsmanship and Work Ethic.

Class Policies
Attendance: You must attend every class. Missing even one class can result in falling behind on projects. If you are absent
you are to make up any work you missed. You will not be exempt from classwork (being absent is not an excuse for not
having assignments during sketchbook check). You are always welcome to ask to come make up work during Tuesday
tutoring time.

Lateness: You must have a pass from your last teacher, nurse, or office when you come late. If you are late without a pass
there is an automatic deduction from your participation grade.

Homework and Tests: There will be homework and tests. It will not be on a regular basis so when assigned something,
it is the expectation that the assignment is done by the scheduled due date. Failure to do so will result in a zero for missing
homework assignment without exceptions.

Sketchbook Check: Each grading term, there will be a Sketchbook Check. Sketchbooks will be expected to include
handouts distributed for reference. You will do sketches for each project. Any written assignments, reference materials,
homeworks and journal entries will be placed in the sketchbook. If you are missing a handout you can always get another,
there will be a folder with all handouts to take whenever you need them. You MUST buy a sketchbook. I will NOT accept
any work that is not in a sketchbook. Sketchbook checks are always due at least a week before each marking period ends.
Students are always given advanced notice of the due dates and rubrics are posted on Pupil Path and in the classroom. I
also go over in class what is expected to be in the sketchbooks.

Participation Grade: You will earn participation points daily by staying on task and following classroom rules stated in
this contract.

Clean-up: Everyone is responsible for cleaning-up the materials used. There will be assigned monitors for each day. That
person will have access to the assigned sink first. You are not to wash your hands until the monitor and the entire table is
done cleaning; this prevents accidents and overcrowding at the sink area. Teamwork gets the job done! Points will be
deducted if you do not participate in clean up.

Food and Drinks: ABSOLUTELY NO Food and Drinks are permitted in the art classroom. It is unsanitary and you run the
risk of ruining your project or another students work. Bottles need to be left next to bathroom log upon entering the room.
Eating and drinking in the classroom will result in loss of Participation Grade and your food/drink will be thrown away.

Cellphones and other Electronic Devices: Electronic devices are NOT allowed during the school day. School policy
stands in the art room.

Backpack/Personal Items Policy: There will be a designated space in the classroom for placing backpacks when students
enter the room. Items of value need to be locked in student lockers at the beginning of the day to prevent loss or theft. This
policy is to prevent accidents and allow for more work space.

Bathroom and Leaving the Classroom: Bathroom: No one is permitted to come late and say they were in the bathroom
(this is a school wide policy). You must come to class first and ask permission before you go or you will receive deductions
from your participation grade. You must sign the bathroom log before you use the facility. You have a maximum of 5
minutes in the bathroom, after that, there will be deductions on your daily participation grade; others need to be able to use
the bathroom too. If there is an issue that causes you to need more time for the facilities, please request a pass to the nurse.
Anytime you leave the classroom you MUST ask for teacher approval; this is to ensure the safety of all students in the case
of an emergency. You will need to obtain separate passes to Guidance, Nurses Office, and any other school office.

Most of all, have a wonderfully successful school year!
