EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
What product are you going to produce or what species are you going to treat?
Write down all the relevant chemical reactions you will be using.
Is there a current demand for this product in the world/country or what is the
current production rate?
B. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Indicate your design objective. What is the end goal for this study?
C. DESIGN BASIS
What is your operating capacity? You can get it from the market study of your
product.
State ALL data (thermo-physical properties of the reactants and products, heats
of reaction, material properties, etc) that you are going to use such as, and cite

A. Sources of Data
a. Finding Cp=f (T ) data
In finding the data for the heat capacities of our compounds, the
researchers used the information taken from the Design Institute for Physical
Properties (DIPPR) by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) as is
shown in the table that follows. The heat capacity expression is given by the
following equation:
J
Cp ( kmolK )
=C 1+C 2T +C 3 T 2+C 4 T 3 +C 4 T 4
(n)
where C1, C2, C3, and C4 are the heat capacity parameters and T is the temperature in
Kelvin.
(n)
Since the working temperature of this experiment is less than the boiling
point of 2-methylhexanal which is 101.1C (or 374.25 K), the method of Ruzicka
and Domalski can be used. As can be seen in Figure 2.1, 2-methylhexanal
contains two groups of CH3-C, three groups of CH2-C, and two groups each of CH-
(2C, CO) and CO(H)-C. Using the given values of the table in the book Properties
of Gases and Liquids (5th edition) and equations N to N, the A , B , and
From the journal article in which the researchers based the design project,
H0 was given to be 19.5 kcal/mol at the T0 which was at 298.15 K. The
