Weekly Reflections of Learning

Week of January 11: Today we started the unit on Juvenile Justice. I have a strong penchant in

juvenile justice and learning about the ins and outs of the subject. We read and annotated Legal

Jargon and a few other articles relating to the unit. Ms. Frederick also introduced the assignment

Reading Goals which we just we have to come up with goals we want accomplish throughout

the remaining portion of the year. We also started working on our first learning log.

Week of January 23: We prepared for the socratic seminar for most of the week. I am arguing

whether or not Greg Ousley should have had a shorter sentence. I really enjoy this topic because

it is super interesting and good debates come out of it. I plan to speak in a glib manner that is

stern but understanding.

Week of February 1: We basically found out our unit writing assignment. Which was an essay

about Juvenile Justice/ Solution. This essay topic is really interesting to me so I know that I can

get it done easily. I need to remember to be terse, but thorough. Also, I just need to work more on

evidence. (you can do it :)).

Week of February 14: We started our new unit on Gender, Language, and Culture. I am

SOOOOO excited about this unit I am so passionate about the differences with sex and gender

and just being who you are. And am so mad at gender roles and how women and men should act.
There is no time to be taciturn in todays society. UGH i get triggered so that is why I am excited

to host my opinions politely. :)

Week of February 21: We read a bunch of articles in our readers about gender norms and

different cultures seeing different things. It was all really interesting to learn and be surprised

about. My peers are a boon to the classroom because of how much I and everyone have learned

in this unit. We also discussed how each author either focused on ethos, pathos, or logos. Many

focused on pathos more than anything.

Week of March 1: We wrote a conversation between Lorde and another author. I chose to write

coming from the Prelude: Barbershop. I really liked how mine turned out. I felt a little

circumscribed at first but I think that was because I am a little intimidated because narrative

writing is not my strong suit. But when I read it to my group they seemed to be really intrigued

and it was really ingratiating to witness.

Week of March 10: We found out our final writing assignment for the unit which is for me, I

chose to write a speech about an important topic I feel a connection to/ want to bring awareness

to. SO that is why I chose street harassment, or commonly know as catcalling. I want to expunge

all norms of catcalling and show that I am erudite in this subject to those who listen. I felt very

passionately about this so it came easy for me to get started. I found austere statistics and it

makes me want to write even more than is assigned.

Week of March 20: In class we started to discuss our new novel, 1984 by George Orwell. I still

need to defray for the book before we start so I can take notes. We took notes on the different

types of government discussed in our society and in the book. I am really interested to read this

book but I also do not really know what to expect in reading this book. I know it is dystopian and

has an interesting government.

Week of April 4: We came back from spring break and had to read a pittance of the chapters of

1984, it is pretty slow so far but it is just explaining the government at the moment. I found out

that the main character, Winston Smith is somewhat part of the proletariat class and that you

must love Big Brother.

Week of April 11: We are still reading 1984 and it has definitely ameliorated itself. But I think

the book is at a dearth without more action moments. But overall, it is interesting. I really like

dystopian and utopian types of novels. I like reading about alternate worlds. It uses adept

vocabulary and it certainly isnt laconic in any sense. I am really never mercenary about what I

want to read and have a wide range of wanting to read certain things.

Week of April 18: Throughout this semester I have been at a dearth with writing thoughts.

Meaning every time I go to write a writing sample I do not have an idea on what to write every

time. I think this bothers me because I usually am so clairvoyant in my work. Usually, these

feelings come in brevity and will be over soon. Once I have these done I will have a perquisite

over the class and will be more at ease.

Week of April 24: We are very close to finishing 1984 now. I have enjoyed the book way more

when Julia entered into the picture. Julia is super interesting and does not become indigent in

their society. I feel like it brought life and excitement into the book. I am up to date with my

1984 notebook every week as well so I am very pleased with myself for that. I personally like

writing notes after I read chapters. It helps me with other assignments and with my own

comprehension. I just really want to get to the end of this book.

Week of May 1: We have finished 1984. YAYYY! The ending of the book was NOT what I

expect AT ALL but I really like those types of endings where I do not have any clue what is

going to happen. Now we are preparing for our socratic seminar. I hope that I will get the first

prompt. In my personal opinion, I feel as if the second prompt is kind of platitude compared to

the first and third prompts.

Week of May 8: We have completed our socratic seminar and to be COMPLETELY honest, I

connected with the first one way more than this one. I felt kind of rushed and just did not fit into

the conversation at all. I got into a vendetta with myself over how I should have participated

more than I should have, but I did not see the right opportunity. Also now we have an essay due

in four days.

Week of May 16: I have basically been trying to get in all my writing assignments, I have

slacked this week a little more than I would like to have. We also found out about our final which

is an anti-bullying guide. It seems pretty solid and very open for different types of ideas.
Week of May 22: We have worked on our anti-bullying guides. My group has mostly everything

done except for a couple parts. I FINALLY got in all my writing samples and an enormous

weight lifted off my shoulders!!!!!
