Does Having Too Low and Too High Blood Sugar Level Make People Aggressive?
Too low and too high blood sugar level can cause aggression because too low blood
sugar level causes hunger and too high blood sugar level can lead to diabetes which both
hunger and diabetes can make people aggressive. The purpose of this research report is to
explain how sugar blood level can affect aggression. The importance of this research report is
to provide the information on the amount of sugar in blood can cause aggression in people.
The pieces of information found in this research report are based on eight resources. First,
Bob B. In his article about Sugar high is bitter-sweet for aggressive people shows about
how increasing amount of sugar in blood make people better from aggressive behavior and
how too high sugar level in blood also make people more aggressive. Second, Leo B. on his
article about Are people with diabetes prone to violence? revealed the people with diabetes
are more violent. Third, an article entitled Behavioral Signs of Low Blood Sugar shows the
behavior of people who have low blood sugar level and this include the aggressive behavior.
Next, Catherine H. In her article about How does elevated blood sugar affect a persons
behavior and mood? reveals how the increasing amount of sugar in blood can change
emotion and behavior in human. Fifth, Sirah D. In her article about Can Low Blood Sugar
Cause Bad Behavior in Children? shows how low blood sugar make the children become
aggressive. Moreover, an article entitled Diabetes Can Take a Toll on Your Emotions by
Serena G. and an article entitled Emotions & Blood-Sugar Levels: How Diabetes Can Affect
Your Mood by Joslin Communication show how diabetes and emotion are related. Finally,

Jacqueline M. In her article about How Blood Sugar Affects Mood shows how different
Brown (2014) stated that the changing amount of sugar in the blood can cause
emotion changed which is including the aggression. There are many factors that actually
affect blood glucose which are separated into five areas. For the first area which is food, it is
the source where body get energy and nutrients from. Food as energy sources are
carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Carbohydrate is the source that affects blood sugar level the
most. The more you intake carbohydrate, the higher level of sugar in the blood. Fat is the
kind of food which affects the insulin resistance that causes the rising of blood sugar. Protein
also affects the insulin resistance which after the body consumes protein, the blood sugar will
increase. There are two other types of food which are not energy sources which also affect
blood sugar Caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine can increase insulin resistance and release
adrenaline. For alcohol, it disturbs the liver which normally, the role of the liver is to release
glucose for maintaining blood sugar level. After people intake alcohol, the amount of glucose
The second area is medication. The ability to raise blood sugar level has many kind
medicines to affect diabetes (Vroomen, N.D.). There are six factors in medication which
affect blood sugar Medication dose, medication timing and medication interactions. The
dose of medicine affects the blood sugar directly whether it be taking a higher dose or lower
dose of medicines. For medication timing, it is important too. As a result, various medicines
have their certain time for taking for them to work efficiently. Next, is medication interaction
which affects peoples blood glucose by some medicines can interact with others. The third

area refers to activities which can be divided into two factors Light exercise and moderate
to high exercise. Blood sugar can be lower as a result of light exercise or activity. On the
other hand, moderate to high exercise or activity can higher blood sugar by cause of releasing
of glucose when adrenaline is responded. For the fourth area which is biological, there are
nine factors Dawn phenomenon, infusion set, scar problem, lack of sleeping, stress and
illness, allergies, glucotoxicity, menstruation, and smoking. All of these factors can impact
the blood sugar whether it be lower or higher the blood sugar level. Moreover, environmental
is the last area which is including three factors Insulin issues, imprecise blood sugar
Emotion can be controlled by blood sugar and also blood sugar can be controlled by
emotion. Edward (n.d.) stated that as glucose is known as a primary source of energy for
every cells in the body so every cells require glucose for proceeding their job. Thinking,
memory, learning or even mood are affected by the glucose level. There are various problem
if people have too high glucose in the blood but the major one is diabetes. Diabetes can be
divided into two types type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is when insulin producer cells or
known as pancreas are destroyed then it will be no longer produce a hormone named
insulin which maintains the glucose level in the blood. Type 2 diabetes is the type that most
people got. For type 2 diabetes, pancreas can produce the insulin ordinarily because the
environmental or other factors impact the body and they lead to producing not enough insulin
of the body.
Following the changing of blood sugar level, whether it rises or falls, it affects the
ability to process of brains (Marshall, 2014). The brain completely operates on glucose so

when the blood sugar level is decreased, it wont work capably. On the other hand, high
blood sugar level can lead to mood changes.Various brain functions are related to glucose
level in blood. If there is too low glucose in the blood, the brains messenger will unable to be
produced and the communication will break down. Moreover, brains work is including
Aggression is the act of attacking without any cause which can be caused by blood
sugar level whether it be lower or higher. Solowiejczyk (2012) stated that high blood sugar
level can extremely causes mood change which affect the self-control and make people feel
irritable. People with high blood sugar can be aggressive even they are not provoked.
According to Dubois (2012), as he did an experiment which he divided children into two
groups and gave candies to only one group. After 30 minutes, the group of children that were
given candies are more hyperactivity, aggressive, and louder noise making. People should not
intake too much sugar as it considered as causing aggressive in people. On the other hand,
lower blood sugar affect aggression too. Hieronymus (2006) showed that many people
experienced the aggression when they were having very low blood sugar level. When blood
sugar drops below regular level, the brain will start starving of fuel due to extreme lower
glucose in blood and then adrenaline which is a fight hormone will be released. Then
symptoms which are confusion, violence, and aggression will occur as a result. So intaking
too low sugar can make people aggressive. A further research from the article entitled Low
Blood Sugar and Aggression Linked in Studies showed that the US have the highest rates of
diabetes likewise had a tendency to have more elevated amounts of vicious wrongdoing, for
example, murder, strike, and burglary, even once neediness was considered.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this research report aimed to find out how sugar blood level can affect
aggression. This concluded that the changing amount of glucose in blood can affect
aggression which when the blood sugar level is too low, it will affect aggression as a result of
less amount of hormones that are being produced. Moreover, when the blood sugar is too
high, it will affect the aggression as a result of diabetes or losing self-control. This research
recommends further studies on how to control the blood sugar level naturally.
