International School in 21st Century

Introduction

Nowadays, international school become more popular. It may because parentss thoughts are

change. They are dare to send children to study in international school because they think

international school is a good choice for their son or daughter.They believe that studying in

international school will give them good english skills , have a good society, and their child would

have a good chance to study aboard in a future.However,there has some parents that worry about

expenses of international school.The expenses of studying in international school included schools

fee and student value.Parents have to be confident that they can support their child definitely.In

another way,international school has missing thing such as some subjects or international school

gives students too much freedom which means students will not have a good manners.Parents

should be ready to teach their child about it.In the first time,an international school was made to

serve to non-host country students, such as international business employees.However,many local

students attend these schools to learn the language of international schools and get qualifications for

employment or higher education abroad.The first international school was established in the 19th

century in countries such as Japan, Switzerland and Turkey. The early international schools were set

up for traveling families, such as employees, staff of international companies, international

agencies. The schools were established with the people and organizations having large interests in

the hosting nation.At the first time international school was for support the people that move for

work around the world.It is fit for them because it has main education system that mean wherever

they are but they can get good education.However,it had been over for 200 years,therefore this

essay would explain what is international school in 21st, is is worth to study in international school,

what is the missing thing in international school.

An International School in many views

An international school is a school that use international education,and has an international

environment, by using a curriculum that is world wide accepted such as the International

Baccalaureate, Edexcel or Cambridge, or by following a national curriculum that different from the

public school that use education that state governments set.Typically, standard tests are required for

the K.1-Gr.12 in public school system, and usually through a board of regents, state colleges and

universities ,so it means that international schools are generally free to set their own curriculum that

base on English or American curriculum and they can be staffed by voluntary certification through

an independent regional accrediting agency.In the past international school was set up for being

support the increasing movement of people around the world which means children who grow up

and reside abroad.It means they need international schools because it can meet their educational

needs due to international school has curriculum that designed for especially. For example of

curriculum that specially designed for international school is IB Diploma Programme.IB Diploma

Programme is for students aged 16-19 because it is a two-year educational program.IB programs are

designed to be flexible enough to accommodate national or local curriculum requirements. The

overriding methodological philosophy of all three programs is that of interactivity, inquiry, cross-

disciplinary connections, and international awareness.(World Education Service,2017)The goals of

international school is to develop the global citizen, make the best environment for learning, and

international teaching that promotes understanding, interdependence, and cooperation.

However,international school has been change a lot.In order to international school in 21st is

different from the first time that international school was established.It may because some

international school in 21st want profit too much ,so they decrease quality of teacher ,and not invest

in many things such as do not have new textbook to replace the old one that is broken or even

employ one teacher to teach many subjects to have low cost on expenditure.Compared to the

international school in the past,it did not want profit like nowadays.Many people think that parents

that send child their to study in international school are crazy caused the cost of tuition fee is very

high ,and they scare that student that study in international school would have bad manner which

are not respect adult or even always use brandname.However ,an opposing view of many people to

international school is not the bad.In addition, many people think that student who study in

international school is be jealous because they learn in international environment that use

international education which mean their curriculum is be acceptance by famous people or

university.To study in curriculum that university design,student can do to university that accept this

curriculum.It means student has quota if they can meet their requirement ,and they can continue

study aboard easily ,so students who study in international school has better chance in their

opportunity to study university.

Is it worth to study?

It is true that international school is very expensive.Moreover, international school,it appears

that 10 international schools have a more than 500,000 Baht annual tuition fee on average for 2015

while 3 of them got an even higher rate with an average tuition fee exceeding 800,000 Baht per

year. A growing expat population in any country is bound to increase the demand for international

schools to a great extent. This in turn can increase the cost of education significantly as demand

increases, prices of course go up (Expatfocus,2016) However, it is worth to study in international

school. It is expensive because international school has many good thing that public dose not have.

The first reason that why it is worth to learn in international school is quality of

teacher.International schools mostly employ teachers through recruitment fairs. recruiting agencies

focused exclusively on recruiting international schools are a better choice by many teachers and

many top schools.Famous recruitment agencies do not charge for sponsored teachers. Service

focused recruitment agencies will provide teacher with all this support, match teacher to the right

school for teachers needs, and can negotiate salary and benefits on to teacher behalf.It means that

teacher in international schools have enough quality and ready to teach students.Moreover,students

in international school that have teacher who is ready and has ability to teach that why students in

international school can concentrate more than students that study in public school.The second

reason that why it is worth to learn in international school is students that study in international

school would have adaptability skill in society because in international school has many students

that different nationality ,and culture.As a result they would know many different culture and know

how to respect their culture.Nowadays,Public school is free for local students in most nations.

Children that study in public schools do not have to pay a tuition fee.However they have to pay for

the cost of school supplies, books, uniforms, and other expenses.But, the quality of teaching in

public schools is sometimes not very good,because of child care is not thorough because of amount

student in one room is too much,so which there is a growing demand for private and international

schools. The main differences between the two types of schools include the language of instruction,

curriculum, global recognition, and teaching styles. An international school must teach the students

at least one type of curriculum that is not the same as that of the host country.Foreigners prefer to

send their children to international schools, although these institutions are very expensive.This is a

common trend in developing countries in Asia like Thailand. The last reason that why it is worth to

learn in international school is to get worldwide accepted curriculum.The locals people who can

afford it also choose the international schools, mainly in order to give their children world class

education that is world wide accepted and have them experience different cultures.Other benefits of

international schools is they have a wonderful education and also has a great balance of physical

education and learning which international school has physical education class twice a week ,but in

the same time public school only has once per week. There are also an abundant amount of facilities

for students to use to extend our physical abilities in any sports. ,and they also offers many after

school activities for students to join in on, strengthen our collaboration with others and also to

strengthen our skills in that certain sport said by (TheTopTens,2016).

Missing expected in international school

Even though international school is very popular ,and many people want to send their child

to study in international school, there absolutely have missing expected in international

school.First,missing expected in international school, is Thai subject .Child in international school

would lack of Thainess in school.According to Almanya Narula (2015),The primary language that

taught in international schools is English and the primary culture promoted is foreign.From history

classes to economy classes or to even geography classes, great importance is placed on western

civilizations and how they were formed.It means that students in international schools learn about

the history of the East India Trading Company, Queen Elizabeth, the discovery of America but

nothing about Thailand.As a result,some of student are able to narrate the entire history of Genghis

Khan, but do not know anything about the Ayutthaya era or why we celebrate Songkran festival.

International schools are committed to achieving the same standards of study abroad.Thus,when

students are in an international school, the objective of the school is to teach kids the Western

ideas.The main point is to give the same standard that students can get like they are studying in the

States. Therefore, teaching Thai is not much of a focus point since that is not the goal of

international schools, which results in international students would not know much about Thailand.

Secondly,students that study in international school would have misunderstood something about

Thai manners.The example of some Thai manners are the wai is the traditional form of greeting,

given by the person of lower status to the person of higher status or even say krub or ka with

older people. Natasha, a former student from Ruamrudee International School said that I know

more about places like America and Europe than my own countrys history. Having to find out

information from foreign websites, not knowing how to answer peoples questions about Thailand

because I genuinely do not know. I feel ashamed about it It shown that some kids do not know

about these culture because schools do not teach them.In 2015, Thai language and culture are still

not subjects that really enforced within the curriculum at most of international schools. According

to Thai law, students with a Thai passport must join in Thai classes.However, it is not a requirement

for those who do not hold a Thai passport. As a result, these students, who usually speak another

language at home, are driven to neglect the Thai language and culture .

Conclusion

All of the stage, international school in 21st century is a school that use international

education,and has an international environment, by using a curriculum that is world wide

accepted.To develop the global citizen, make the best environment for learning, and apply

international teaching that promotes understanding, interdependence, and cooperation is the goals of

international school.At the first time international school was established for support the people that

move to another country for work around the world.It is fit for them because it has main education

system that means wherever they are but they can get good education.In other view, many parents

think that international school is not worth to send their child to study.In cause of the cost of tuition

fee is rather high. However, it can be guaranteed that students who study in international school

would have better chance in their opportunity to study university or continue study aboard.

In case of high tuition fee, international school is expensive because it has many good things such

as quality of teacher, adaptability skill in society,and to get worldwide accepted curriculum.Most of

foreigner send their child to study in international school because it will be was for them to continue

their child study when they have to come back to their own country Not only foreigner prefer to

send their children to international schools ,but also the locals people who can afford it also choose

the international schools .This is a common trend in developing countries in Asia like Thailand,

Singapore or even China.However, there are some missing expected in international school which

are Thai subject or misunderstood something about Thai manners.It shown that some kids do not

know about these culture because schools do not teach them.In 2015, Thai language and culture are

still not subjects that really enforced within the curriculum at most of international schools. These

make some people think that students who study in international school would have bad manner

which are not respect adult or even always use brandname which is not true.The student that study

in international school is not always be liked pictures that everyone thinks.They are same like other

normal that has many kinds of student.To sum it up,International school is a good choice for some

people ,but not the best for everybody.
