3. Grading Policy:
6th Grade 7th Grade
I have read and understand the Rights & Responsibilities Contract for Ms. Davis Science
class. I will empower myself by meeting my educational and personal goals and then
continuing to raise the bar.
Course Description:
The sixth grade science curriculum is broken into four sections. Simple & Complex Machines,
Weather, Diversity of Life, and Interdependence. The pacing map (Scope & Sequence) that
we use is aligned with the New York State Intermediate Level Science Core Curriculum Guide
from the State Education Department.
Essential Questions:
How does energy play a role in our lives? How do machines impact our lives?
How do matter and energy interact to produce weather patterns?
How does the transfer of matter and energy through biological communities support diversity of living
things?
How is interdependence essential in maintaining life on Earth?

The textbook that we use is called, New York State Science: Grade 6
We will also be using Edmodo, a class based educational website, a science website that I created that
has video games, experiments, and online labs all aligned to our curriculum. We will also be taking a
trip to the New York Hall of Science.
6th grade website: https://sites.google.com/site/tywls6mdavis29/home
Project-based learning opportunities will include poems, balloon poppers, skits, dichotomous keys,
creating a science board game, and 600 hands-on lab minutes.
Communication:
I will be communicating with parents via Skedula and e-mail. If you ever need to get in touch with me
you can use PupilPath or my e-mail: mdavis@tywlsqueens.org. Parent meetings can be held on
Tuesdays from 3:00pm - 3:45pm
Extra Help: If a student should need extra help I will offer tutoring on Tuesdays from 2:20pm-3:00pm
Real world connections: Field trips to local museums, zoos, and botanical gardens
Building wide policy: No late homework will be accepted unless a student is absent. Then,
the expectation is that the homework will be handed in when the student comes back to
school.
The most important tool for being successful in life is a positive mindset. In this course, we will learn
things, make mistakes, and keep moving forward.
