Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful day from everyone at the church.
The Lord is moving among us and blessing us as we seek Him. He said if we
call on His name that He would answer us and show great and mighty things
that we never knew before.
In Psalm 23 is a verse of Scripture that is quoted many times but we tend
to overlook its meaning. Verse 1-3 says, "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall
not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me
beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for His name's sake." I want to zero in on, "He restoreth my
soul." The word "restoreth" here literally means "to turn back," but not
necessarily with the idea of a return to the starting point. I did not understand
that part for a long time. I avoided asking God to restore this one or that thing,
because many times the starting point wasn't perfect, and no one wants to go
back to a false start! But this word has to do with a repairing or refreshing of
the original purpose of God. His beginnings are always perfect! When He made
the heavens and the earth and everything there is in the beginning, the Bible
says He called it "good." But when He made human beings, He called them
"very good!" We fell from that place by our own actions, but in the beginning
God called us very good. When people go astray and fall into unhealthy
patterns, to ask the Lord to restore them actually is asking the Lord to return
them to their original purpose: His purpose for their lives. We spend a lifetime
seeking our purpose in life, but rarely do we ask Him what His purpose for our
lives is. We compare our lives and where we are now with where others are,
and judge our worth by those standards. But we fail to reach our own standards
because they are usually faulty. Unless we find out what He expects of us, we
will fail. I have two daughters whom I love dearly. They are very different from
each other. They both have different strengths and weaknesses. My love is not
changed for them by what the other one is doing or has accomplished. I view
them individually and my love for both of them is not more or less by what
they do. What counts to me is who they are. This is how God views us: as
individuals. And He loves us individually. I believe we all need to do our best
in life, knowing that time is short and much needs to be accomplished. But I
also know that the Lord loves us so much He laid His life down for each of us.
That is a lot of love!
In green pastures and by the still waters, God returns our souls, our life-
force, back to His original design and plan for our lives. The soul is the seat of
our emotions or passions. It is where the Holy Spirit breathes new life into the
believer. He activates our mind, will, and character. He breathes into our spirit,
and inspires us anew to fulfill His purpose for our lives. I don't need to compare
my life with others but I need to concentrate on what He has given me to do! I
choose to continue to hunger and thirst after righteousness, for Jesus said only
they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). Are those choices easy? Not always. Some
of the choices I have to make to maintain His purpose are what I call "pride-
killers!" Completely trusting the Lord always causes good things to come your
way. He said in His Word that He will withhold no good thing from those who
walk uprightly before Him.
Your calling by God is stronger than your weaknesses in character. Your
place in the heart of God is more stable than the social circle you are involved
with. The desire of God to mature you and bless you and develop good things
in you is more powerful than any other person's opinions of you. Remember,
greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. The Scripture also says,
"I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me" (Philippians
4:13). Your struggles and missteps do not stop God's calling in your life. Ask
Him to keep you and trust Him to bring you through every situation you face.
Only He knows the end from the beginning. Spend some time in the green
pastures of reading His Word and take some time by the still waters of prayer
and listening to His still small voice. It is there that He restores your soul. It is
there you will be renewed!
I invite you to our church services. Our schedule is Sunday at 10 am and
7 pm, and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you more abundantly!

Sincerely

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
