Lab 01 Installation of Windows Server 2008

Topic Intended Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this lab, you should be able to:
Install Windows Server 2008 Operating System as a server
Change computer name of the Windows Server 2008
Create local user accounts in the Windows Server 2008

Task I : Install Windows Server 2008 Operating System using

VMware Player
Task II: Change computer name of the Windows Server 2008
Task III: Create local user accounts in the Windows Server 2008

Note:
- Use password as Passw0rd
- Select Host-only mode if you are using VMware Player

I. Install Windows Server 2008 Operating System (2008 R2

x64)
1. Restart the System.
2. Go to BIOS to set the first boot device as DVD ROM.
3. Insert Windows Server 2008 DVD and Restart the system.
4. Install the system and leave the Product Key blank. (Product
key can be entered later)
5. Select Windows Server 2008 Standard.
6. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

7. Finally login the Windows Server 2008 as Administrator.

II. CHANGING COMPUTER NAME

Note: New computer name: dccimlab1
1. Log in as Administrator.
2. Click on Start button to get start menu.
3. From the menu right click on Computer and from available
options click on Properties.
4. On System window under Computer name, domain, and
workgroup settings section click on Change settings link.

5. On System Properties box make sure that you are on

Computer Name tab and click on Change button.

6. On Computer Name/Domain Changes box in Computer name

text box type the new name for Windows Server 2008

computer.

7. Click on Ok button.
8. On the appeared option box click on Restart Now button to
restart the computer.

Suggest TWO methods to check if the computer

name has been changed.

III. CREATING LOCAL USER ACCOUNTS

1. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer
Management
2. Expand Computer Management > Expand System Tools >
Expand Local Users and Groups > Right click Users and then
click New User.

3. Enter User Name (lcuser01) and set Password, Confirm

Password and click Create.
4. Follow the similar steps to create another user (lcuser02).
5. Click Close, and then Close Computer Management.
