Prayer Development

A. Theme: Commemoration of the Columbine High School Shooting Tragedy

B. Reading: Psalm 101:3-4 (NRSV)
I will walk with integrity of heart

within my house;

I will not set before my eyes

anything that is base.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.
Perverseness of heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil..
C. Reflection: On April 20, 1999, one of the most horrible shoot shootings and first of this

magnitude had occurred in the United States. It began in Littleton, Colorado when two high

school boys from Columbine High School went on a killing spree and ultimately killed 13 at the

school and wounded 20 others in the process. At the end of this tragic incident, the two teenage

boys unfortunately took their own lives and committed suicide. They were influenced by the sin

that happened in their life and felt they had been wronged and could not see that God was there

for them. They felt abandoned by God and that he wasnt there for them to help deal with their

issues of being bullied at school and feeling as if they didnt fit into or belong. But, in the end as

Christians we forgive and love no matter the sin. The two boys must have let their anger, hatred

and fear consume them so much that they couldnt see that God had other plans for them and

their talents.
One of the 13 victims was a Junior by the name of Rachel Scott, she was a young

Christian lady who had her own struggles with her faith. Eventually and not too long

before this tragic day she figured out her pathway with God. One of her school projects

has a great quote I have this theory, that if one person will go out of their way to show

compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. This means we should love
one another as God has commanded us to do and it can start a revolution for love and

compassion that can not only positively affect our schools and communities but spread

throughout the entire world.

D. Prayer:
Dear God, tonight I ask for your prayers for the 13 victims of the

Columbine HS shooting. Rachael Scott, Daniel Rohrbough, Ryle Velasquez,

Steven Curnow, Cassie Bernall, Isaih Shoels, Matthe Kechter, Lauren Tounsend,

John Tomlin, Kelly Fleming, Daniel Mouser, Corey Deporter and teacher Dave

Sanders.
Those 13 victims we pray for, love and be with their souls forever, even

the two shooters and all of their families and their great losses at such a young

age. We pray for love and forgiveness for them as the shooters didnt know what

they were doing.

Pray for the 20 wounded and place them deep in your heart. For they will

always remember the tragedy and were so blessed to survive.

May the Lord be with all of them and their families so that they will be

remembered. The Father Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth will always give

you a place in His for everlasting Kingdom.

In your Blessed Name. Amen
