As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
In pairs, students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of landform identification by using a
thinglink diagram
Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for students at educational risk:
Teacher has prepared Weebly site (with all the pages) Students are given opportunities to work
for the students to access. together, promoting peer mentoring.

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:
How did the students find the ICT tools? Were they boring to them, were they distracted by the tools?
How did the students perform in pairs? Should I as a teacher have dictated the order in which the
students will sit in?
Was there enough information provided to the students? Were questions asked about further
information?
Did the students find the overall content interesting, what was the tone of the classroom at the end like,
and compared to the beginning? How was it during the collaborative discussion time?
Did it seem all students were comfortable and contributing during the lesson?
Did students find the lesson easy to follow?

Resources/References
Time Motivation and Introduction:

This small group activity is a blend of all four of our lessons. Weebly:
2
In pairs, we will be gathering information and working http://analarahass.weebly.com
mins
towards creating a digital diagram/presentation of an
Australian landmark of students choosing (using
Thinglink).

Show students objectives written up on the Weebly page and
the plan for todays lesson:

Lesson Objectives:

- In pairs, you will be choosing a landform from the list

below, and then using ICT tools to create a mind-map

identifying your chosen landforms. You will then use

this landform in a Thinglink presentation.

Lesson Plan:
- Context of Lesson/ Activation of Prior Knowledge

- Coggle and Google Earth
- Thinglink

- Answer Garden

Lesson Steps

1. Context of Lesson/ Activation of Prior Knowledge:
Whole class watch two videos:
1. The first is a collection of clips in which students were
5 asked What is a Landform prior to the lesson. This
mins was intended to engage students;
2. The second is an example of using digital tools to
teach content. The video teacher explains what a
Vimeo embedded on Group
landform is and shows an example landform (a lake).
Weebly.

2. Coggle and Google Earth
Get students into pairs.

Whole class use of Google Earth: teacher demonstrates
looking up the various landforms mentioned on the Weebly.

These are separated into 3 categories Mountain Ranges,

Water-bodies, and Rock Features, and can be found on the
linked Weebly site.
5
Show students where they can find the Australias Google Earth
mins
landforms for them to choose from (links to google
images on Weebly).

Show Students how they can collect information for their

presentation, including mapping details and images from
Google Earth/Google Maps.
Snip it tool to take a screenshot of google maps

Need to remember that Google Earth might not work
for all students using the Notre Dame desktops
because google chrome isnt installed on them. So

recommend that they use google maps.

Geographical inquiry focus questions for small group
activity:
What is it? Where is it?

How big is it? Why is it this size?

What is its significance? E.g. to Indigenous Australians?

Teacher reminds students of how to use Coggle to create
mind maps and they are informed that they will be using this

as their planning document for their thinglink presentation.
5
Students will choose which landform from the list they are
mins Coggle: https://coggle.it/
going to investigate and then they will spend 5 - 10 minutes

answering the Geographical inquiry questions:

Geographical inquiry focus questions for small group
activity:
What is it? Where is it?
How big is it? Why is it this size?

What is its significance? E.g. to Indigenous Australians?

Allow Students some time to do this.

3. Thinglink

Students chose to work individually or in pairs to create a
Thinglink. The Thinglink must demonstrate students
10 understanding of the lesson content.
mins

Thinglink:
Lesson Closure:
www.thinglink.com

4. Answer Garden
Students will be directed towards the Answer garden link on
2-3 the Weebly site to contribute to the final question/reflection
mins activity:
One thing I learnt today is? Answer Garden:
https://answergarden.ch/491666
To finish off our lesson we have created an Answer Garden
where we would like you to all individually tell us one thing
you learnt today. It can be about either landforms or any ICT
tools we have used?

Assessment:

Teachers will be walking around the room during the small
group presentation monitoring students and observing their
work/progress. This will give the teachers an indication of
whether more explanation needs to be given in particular
areas or whether the students are progressing as expected.

Formative Assessment: Use of Thinglink will demonstrate the
student's comprehension of the lesson content..

Formative Assessment: Use of Answer Garden to conclude
activity:

One thing I learnt today is?
