A). Briefly Identify the main point expressed by the artist of the political cartoon.

In this cartoon the artist is portraying Calvin Coolidge playing music Big Business
wants to hear. He is suggesting that Calvin Coolidge is enacting policies that benefit
big businesses and the top 1% of the economy.
B). Briefly explain one policy example from the 1920s that supports this view.
In the 1920s Calvin Coolidge and his secretary of treasury Mellon put into place
many Revenue acts removing excise tax from big business. Throughout the 20s
Mellons goal was to cut taxes for business for them to put more money into their
factories essentially helping the top 1%.
C). Briefly explain one impact of the policy you described in Part B.
One impact from the major tax cuts was the rich were paying less taxes so the
burden of taxes had to come from somewhere else. In 1921 if a big business owner
was making one million dollars 663,000 dollars would be paid in taxes however in
1926, after Coolidges policies, only 200,000 dollars would be paid. Therefore a big
tax burden was put on the middle class and this paved the way for the great
depression.
