YOUTH GROUP THANK YOU
(On Friday, May 19" and Saturday, May 20”, the Youth Group
held their annual garage sale/bake sale/not dogssale. These sales
‘would not have been possible without the help of everyone who
donated items to the garage sale and also all who baked for us.
itis hard to believe that this is the sixth time we have held this
sale. We want to thank all of you for your very generous
support, not only for this sale, but for everything we do.
This sale takes a lot of people and a lot of work so | want to
personally thank the following:
Malik Thompson and his friend, Greg, for bringing
‘everything upstairs from the Youth Group room; the Smiths (that
‘would be Clyde, Sharon, Samara, Gabby and Donovan) for setting.
up, working and cleaning up; Dee Frasier for setting up and
working; Donna Coenradt for helping to set up and clean up; Pat
“the more you buy, the better the deal” Carter for wheeling and
dealing; Pastor for cooking the hot dogs, buying, selling and
cleaning up; Mary Phelps (the bake sale guru); Mike Frederick for
workingand cleaning up and Bonnie Olendorfand Audrey Goebel
for cleaning up. | also want to thank the youth who did all the
heavy lifting and carrying items to cars for our buyers-Gabby,
Samara, Donovan, Schuyler and David Almleaf (they worked
really hardl) if you helped out and | didn’t thank you, please
don’t take offense. Sometimes I forget stuff.
‘Thank you forall the donated items and the baked goods (we do
very well on the bake sale spectrum!) This year the group raised
$1746-our best year so far! Before you know it, we will be
leaving for Houston and we couldn't do it without you. Thank
you, thank you, thank youn.

P.S. on June 21" from 5-7 p.m. out Youth will be holding a fund

Thaye enjoyed writing about the seasons of the church. This series was begun last
fall. ‘This will be the last installment.
June Sundays begin with the observance of Pentecost on the fourth of
ay June. “Peute” is Greck for muliples of five as in the pentagon. In the c
of Pentecost it means 50. Pentecost is the 50" day alter Easter Sunday. It
Pee Was a Jewish festival long before it took on a Christian character. ‘The Jewish
Pentecost celebrates the revelation of the 10 commandments. During the
observance of this in Jerusalem the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles as they were
in hiding from the same authorities who had Jesus crucified less than two months earlier
While praying, the Holy Spirit drove them out of hiding and onto the streets where they
began preaching in every language of those in Jerusalem for the festival.
Many call Pentecost the birthday of the church because it was the day Jesus’
followers came out of hiding and the church began to grow as the Gospel was proclaimed.
‘The Holy Spirit was reported to have descended as tongues of fire and so the color of the
day is red. We will make it more special with confirmation, red geraniums, and Bell
Choir music.
‘The following Sunday the colors will be back to white as we celebrate the majesty of
God the eternal three in one. The day is called Holy Trinity. The Lutheran Church
adheres to the three historic creeds of the church. Because it is so much longer, the
Athanasian Creed has traditionally only been used on Holy ‘Trinity. Those who dread its’
length will be happy to note that there apparently was not room for it in the hymnal we are
now using.
Starting June 18" and continuing through October 22, the colors will be green as
we come full circle and once again return to the time of parables and stories of teaching
and healing,a

Here at Grace we will spend the summer
months singing our favorite hymns. Please
take a moment to look through our new
hymmals and write the title, (or just the
number from our new hymn books), of your
favorite hymn(s) and drop it in the box in
the narthex so that I can put them on our
schedule for June, July and August. Thank
you for sharing! ~ Darlene
