Dear Mrs. Andrews- Avila,

I am applying to Calvin College due to its tremendous reputation. I am aspiring to be an English

major, and it has come to my attention that Calvin has a renowned English program. I believe
that your program will equip me for my field of interest. After hearing so many positive things
from students as well as alumni, I am convinced that this is the institution I want to attend. I have
visited the campus several times, and on both occasions I was highly impressed. Calvin College
is where I belong.

I will bring honesty, integrity and hard work to Calvin College. My academic background
portrays my desire for excellence and success. Throughout my high school years, I have
maintained a GPA of at least 3.7, and I do my schoolwork to the best of my ability. I will take
that same devotion and apply it to my studies at Calvin. In 2015, I received the Scholar Athlete
Award for having the highest GPA on our varsity basketball team. I have also gained experience
in the area of leadership through being a captain of our varsity basketball team. Both through
school and basketball, I have learned responsibility and accountability. I believe all of these
qualities make me an excellent fit for Calvin College.

I am very excited to begin college life and experience all that comes with it at Calvin College. I
will be submitting my Common Application by October 12, 2016. Your consideration is much
appreciated, and I am eager to receive news of being accepted into the Calvin College freshman
class of 2021.
