findings. Answer length will vary depending on the question; however, consider 1-5 sentences as an
appropriate base-line.

1. What education is needed for this career? (Explain type of education, where one can get it and how
long it would take. If you can find specific schools that offer this education, feel free to list them.)

For becoming a nurse midwife you must start by going to a four year, or two year college and earn your
bachelor in nursing. After earning your bachelors in nursing they suggest you get one year of experience
out in the field and pass the National Council Licensing Examination. After this you then apply for an
Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education ,ACME, graduate program. These courses can take
anywhere from two to four years to achieve. After taking a graduate program many nurses have to pass
and board and licensing exam to allow them to work at a hospital. Along with taking the National Council
of State Boards of Nursing, midwives also have to take another exam called the American Midwifery
Certification Board. After becoming a midwife the nurses have to take this exam and recertify every five
years. For example at Vanderbilt University they adjust their nursing program to what you have when
applying there. If it is your first year at college then you have to go into the nursing program and then
after that you chose from two programs and curriculums, one is a registered nurse with a ASN or ADN
diploma or and registered nurse with BSN or MSN. Then from there those programs allow you to become
a Nurse Midwife.

7. In which areas of the country could/would one live?

For the position of a midwife there are only certain states that actually have that position in america. So
for one to become one you would have to live on the east coast or on the west coast because that is where
that position is very popular and offered. Since California is one of the states with the most employment
of midwives to live there it will cost 75,000$ which does not really even out to pay you start out with
which is around 71,000$ so, you will be struggling to live there when you first start out as a midwife.
Living somewhere like philadelphia it will cost less because of how much cheaper the pricing is of a
house, which can be anywhere from 100,000-300,000$ versus California which is millions. If I were to
become a midwife I would first have to start out living somewhere that has cheaper living and then when I
work for ten years I could live somewhere like California.
