5. Purpose This qualification is for persons working in the field of Drafting. Persons with this
of the qualification qualification have a sound theoretical knowledge and competence to perform work at
supervisory level in the above field.

On successful completion of this qualification learners may also progress to National


Diploma in drafting Technology (Level 5) or after securing additional credits in the
specified units may move to another relevant field for further studies.

6. Regulations Entry requirements


for the qualification
A National Certificate at NVQ Level 4 or higher in the occupation of Draughtsman
Or
A similar qualification after completing a course or work experience in the field of
Drafting of one year duration or more and assessed to be equivalent to the above in
accordance with TVEC guidelines on recognition of non NVQ qualifications and
recognition of prior learning
Or
Work experience in the field of Drafting of two years duration or more with GCE (O/L)
passes in six subjects including science and English with three credit passes including
Mathematics and assessed to be equivalent to the above in accordance with TVEC
guidelines on recognition of prior learning

Qualification requirements

Minimum Number of Credits required for the Qualification is 70 of which 66 credits


should be at Level 5 or above and the remaining credits at Level 3 or above. The
credits could be earned as shown in the table below

Accreditation This qualification shall be offered in compliance with the accreditation requirements of

UNIT TITLE Apply basic drawing concepts

This unit specifies competencies required to draw geometrical drawings,

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

1. Draw geometrical drawings All relevant components of geometrical drawings


incorporated into drawings using standard line types, line
thicknesses, line darkness, etc. as applicable

Drawings produced following all standard practices


applicable to making geometrical drawings.

2. Draw two dimensional (2D) Two dimensional (2D) drawings produced incorporating all
drawings relevant components of (2D) drawings, using standard line
types, line thicknesses, line darkness, development
techniques and standard procedures as per the type of
the drawing.

Drawing produced as per the instructions and specifications


given by the designer and following all standard practices
applicable to making 2D drawings

3. Draw three dimensional 3.1 Three dimensional (3D) drawings drawn


(3D)drawings incorporating all relevant components of three
dimensional (3D) drawings using standard line
types, line thicknesses, line darkness, different view
development techniques, shading, rendering and
geometrical development techniques, procedures
as per the type of the drawing

3.2 Drawing produced as per the instructions and


specifications given by the designer and following all
standard practices applicable to making (3D) drawings

RANGE STATEMENT
Elements of this unit are applicable when producing two dimensional (2D)drawings and three
dimensional (3D) drawings relevant to a given discipline or sub discipline

Common standard components of a drawing may include, title panel, Information panel,
key, orientation, outlines and may vary from organization to organization
Title panel may indicate, job title, job number, institute emblem, drawing title, drawing reference
number, major scale and sub scales, date drawn, name/s of person who designed, drawn,
checked and approved

Information panel may include revision scheduled date, nature of revision, revision references,
notes if any, name of the person who has approved

Standard procedures pertaining to two dimensional (2D) drawing may include selection of
drawing size, units, scales, accuracy limits, text styles, text height, dimension styles, components
to be drawn in the drawing in addition to the common standard components

Standard components of specific three dimensional (3D)drawings may vary from the type of
drawing to be drawn as relevant to any major discipline such as buildings, civil, mechanical ,
electrical and also as relevant to sub disciplines such as Highways, Irrigation, Electronic and
Telecommunication.

Type of three dimensional (3D) drawing may vary as per the major discipline or the sub
-discipline

RANGE STATEMENTS
Elements of this unit are applicable when producing two dimensional (2D) drawings and three
dimensional (3D) drawings relevant to a given discipline or sub discipline, at office or site
using CAD software

CAD software stands for Computer Aided Drafting software

Standard components of specific drawing may vary from the type of drawing to be drawn as
relevant to any major discipline such as building, civil, mechanical , electrical and also as
relevant to sub disciplines such as Highways, Irrigation, Electronic and Telecommunication

tools, etc

Standard procedures pertaining to three dimensional (3D) drawing of CAD software


program may include, setting of standard procedures and tools pertaining to 3D drawings.

indicating basic dimensions, grids, scale, timber
sizes and lengths, spacing of timber members and fixing

geological data and levels with respect to the given datum in MSL (Mean Sea Level), location of
