Framatome Advanced Nuclear Power (ANP) offers an extensive range of
proven high-quality services for Balance-of-Plant (BOP) heat exchangers
to help electrical utilities meet hardware upgrade requirements for plant-life
extension. Our responsive services include heat exchanger inspections,
tube-side repairs, shell-side repairs (including component replacement)
and specialized tasks such as condenser chemical cleaning. In addition,
we offer the latest innovative measurement solutions that preclude
changes to your existing piping and ensure the accurate fitup of heat
exchanger replacement components.
Inspection services
Duke Engineering and Services (DE&S) has joined Framatome ANP,
bringing a highly skilled BOP heat exchanger inspection organization. As
the former examination group for all Duke Energy plants, Framatome ANP
DE&S is experienced in eddy current testing of a vast variety of BOP heat
exchanger designs. More recently, Framatome ANP DE&S has begun
applying this experience to plants outside the Duke Energy system.
Tube-side repairs feature two methods
of sleeve installation
Our tube-side repairs include plugging, stabilizing, plug removal, tube
sample removal, and sleeving. We are an authorized installer of Expansion
Seal Technologies Pop-A-Plug, recognized industry-wide for its ease of
use and reliable performance in secondary-side components.
As a leader in sleeve repair, Framatome ANP utilizes two cost-effective
methods of repair and installation. Each sleeve design is qualified to the
operating parameters of the repaired heat exchanger.
Our roll-expanded technique corrects tube defects located near the tube
end. If the defect resides deep in the bundle, Framatome ANPs patented
hydraulic expansion system can install the sleeve anywhere along straight
sections of tubing even 50 feet or longer from a tube end. In fact, the
advanced process requires access to only one end of the tube, enabling
reliable installation in straight sections of U-tube heat exchangers.

Moreover, a computer-controlled system monitors both pressure

and hydraulic volume. And, its specially designed tooling
accommodates variations in yield strengths and individual tube
diameters. This ensures consistent production of each sleeve
expansion joint to the exact requirements for successful
operation within the heat exchanger operating parameters.

Shell-side repairs performed utilizing both

manual and remote welding techniques
Framatome ANPs weld and repair experience profile includes
achievements for some of the power industrys most demanding
tasks. From steam generator replacement to nuclear piping
system change-outs, vessel instrument nozzle replacements,
Condenser tubes before cleansing.
cladding repairs, and heat exchanger shell repairs, we maintain
an ASME Code weld procedure qualification file of virtually
thousands of records performed over decades of meeting and
exceeding customer expectations. This vast base of knowledge
enhances and supports field repairs, weld development and
ASME welding procedure qualifications.

Field-proven chemical cleaning services

Framatome ANP is an industry leader in providing chemical
cleaning services, safely and effectively removing corrosion
products/deposits from nuclear power plant heat exchangers.
Our capabilities include cleaning PWR and BWR condensers as
well as balance-of-plant heat exchangers. We also provide
turnkey waste processing as needed.

Framatome ANP has recently completed chemical cleaning of

nine separate units. Where piping configuration allowed, the
units were cleaned while the plant was on-line.
Chemical Cleaning Service restores condenser
tubes to like-new condition, significantly improving
plant performance.
Component change-out
Framatome ANP also has a wide range of component replacement
experience, from Primary Side Steam Generators and Primary
Reactor Coolant Pumps to BOP Feedwater Heaters. We recently
performed a turnkey job to replace six feedwater heaters, including

the supervision of all required craft labor to perform rigging,

scaffolding, painting and light, I&C, insulation removal and
installation, welding, machining, inspections, building obstruction
removal and restoration, system leak tests, and feedwater
heater pre-service optimization.

can ensure that your heat exchanger component is built within
specified engineering tolerances before it leaves the fabricators
facility, enabling correction prior to final acceptance and shipment.

unexpected surprises later and preclude costly changes
to your existing piping.

Digital photogrammetry applies sophisticated computer image

processing and automation to traditional surveying techniques.
This unique technology precludes the use of film, saves time and
measures three-dimensional coordinates. Coordinate data may be
linked with three-dimensional computer models to show complex
geometric features and determine relative measurements (such
as dimensions of obtrusive objects around a heat exchanger, or
objects along its egress/ingress route). Powerful software then

requirements. We also perform precision measurements of heat

in situ nozzles, connectors, pedestals, and support structures. This
data provides a powerful arsenal of vital information to help in the
accurate pre-fabrication of shims and liners, establishment of cut
lines for piping systems, machining of cut surfaces for weld preps,
and pre-drilling of foundation supports.
