COMMANDERS REPORT
I pray that this newsletter finds everyone well. We will not have a speaker at this meeting. Instead, we will
discuss the results of the Trail of Honor and hopefully have the winner of the Turkey Shoot with us to receive
his or her grand prize. We will then discuss the details of the Relic Show and how we will make this year's
Show second to none! We need your attendance and to bring someone with you. Please come early and as
sure as there were BBs flying by the thousands at the Trail of Honor, I'll probably see you at our next meeting
on June 3rd at Penn's in Brandon. The SCV meeting starts at 7:00pm. The OCR meeting starts at 6:15pm.

 RELIC SHOW UPDATE
As of May 17th, 2017 we have sold 232 tables for our relic show! We will have fliers at the meeting for everyone. We will be
mailing 120,000 fliers out to residents in Hinds, Rankin, and Madison counties. We will be advertising on 8 radio stations
and in 11 newspapers. We have 20 banners to put at major intersections and 150 2'x3' yard signs. If you have access to a
major intersection, please ask for a banner or yard sign. We have found several people willing to do living histories at our
Relic Show. We need help raising money by selling ads in our newsletter or soliciting donations! Any help with this
endeavor would be greatly appreciated by all of us at camp 265. Remember: if you ask, you may be told no, but if you never
ask you'll never be told yes! The thing we need the most though is your help with presenting our Relic Show to the public!!

CHAPLAINS REPORT

Reunion
On June 29 July 4, 1913, 53,403 Civil War
Veterans of which 8,750 were Confederates
joined together at the Gettysburg National Battle
Field. The reunion was the largest ever held.
Thousands of Civil War Veterans from 46 of the
48 states camped at the site during the six day
event. Those who attended the reunion and photos
of the event, recorded a vast city of tents
stretching from one end of the battle field to the
other. Some of those who attended even slept on
the open ground.
Men who had once met in anger now received
each other in peace to remember those who had
fallen and the sacrifice that so many of them, both
North and South had given. A wonderful result of
their meeting brought together old friends and
with it new friends discovered. A spontaneous
and visible camaraderie developed among those
that had gathered.
Later during the reunion, President Woodrow
Wilson summed up the event as he addressed the
men assembled before him. We have found one
another again as brothers and comrades in arms,
enemies no longer, generous friends, our battles
long past, the quarrel forgotten. The splendid
valor not forgotten to you who stand here today.
Through out the week there were many gatherings
and events, old units reunited, stories shared, and
lives rekindled in hope. One of the events held
was the Wedd-Picket flag ceremony. Veterans
from two of the units both North and South who
had met on the battle field fifty years earlier, now
advanced toward the other with their unit flags.
As the distance closed over the ground between
them, they met face to face, clasped each other's
hands, and buried their faces on each other's
shoulders forgiving and leaving behind their
anger.
This is my prayer as I hope also it is yours. May
we clasped the hand of our brother and bury our
face on each others shoulder.
Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and
forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel
against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also
do ye.

3RD LIEUTENANT COMMANDERS REPORT

We have been busy the past two months. We were at Confederate Memorial Services in April & at the Trail Of Honor in
May. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped out at these events. Also, in April we went and helped clean-
up at the McWilliams house. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped there too.

There are several events coming up in June & July. Our State Division reunion is the 2nd weekend in June, our camp
annual Civil War Relic show is the 3rd weekend in June. The 122nd Annual SCV Reunion is in Memphis, TN, July 20-
22, 2017.

Were looking forward to seeing you at our meeting on June 3rd, at 7pm.

ADJUTANTS REPORT

As usual we had a full house at the May meeting. We added a new member in May, increasing our membership to 75.
Welcome Joseph Bradley. It is good to see the camp membership growing. Several camp members and OCR members
participated in the Brandon, Forest, Vicksburg, and Jackson Confederate Memorial Services. Thanks for representing our
camp at these services. Tal Floyd, Craig Haden and I attended the Bylaw Amendment meeting at the War Memorial Building
on May 13th. The amendments were discussed and will be voted on at the reunion in Oxford on June 10-11. If you are
interested in reading them I will have a copy at the upcoming meeting. The relic show is quickly approaching, June 16-18.
We will need help setting up, working the event, and taking down. All help is appreciated if it is only for an hour or all day.

All MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE DUE by July 31st. All members who are current on their dues will be eligible for the
prize drawing later this year.

WHAT THE CONFEDERATE FLAG MEANS:

The red represents the blood of Christ. The white

border represents the protection of God. The blue "X"
represents the Christian cross of Saint Andrew, the
first disciple of Christ Jesus and patron Saint of
Scotland. The 13 stars represent the 13 Southern states
of secession. Thus, the message of the Confederate
battle flag is, Through the blood of Christ, with the
protection of God, We, the 13 states, are united in our
Christian fight for liberty."
On Monday, April 24th, several members dressed for a Vicksburg SCV camp memorial service.

On Sunday, April 30th, several members also dressed for a Memorial Service at the Jackson SCV meeting.
Our annual Trail of Honor Turkey Shoot was a huge success! There were thousands
of visitors that walked through the trail, and hundreds of kids that stopped at our table
to sling some lead down range. For $10 each participant was given twenty shots in a
marksmanship competition with BB guns, and could choose to take home a U.S.,
Mississippi, or Confederate flag. The winner will receive their winning target, a
certificate of appreciation, a congratulatory letter from the Camp Commander, and a
$100 cash prize! Proceeds will go to support the Trail of Honor.
The OCR Report
Our May meeting was wonderful! We are in discussions about raising money to help out
the Brandon Fire Department in their project to buy Sparky the Fire Dog a new uniform.
Sparky will teach fire safety to children, and this project will further strengthen our good
relationship with our local community. If you can help in anyway please see Mrs.
Robbie Lewis or Brandi Gray. We love our SCV Camp and are so grateful to be able to
work alongside these great men!
